Baron Von Count

Legendary Creature — Human

Baron Von Count enters the battlefield with a doom counter on "5." Whenever you cast a spell with the indicated numeral in its mana cost, text box, power or toughness, move the doom counter one numeral to the left.

When the doom counter moves from "1," destroy target player and put that doom counter on "5."

Having played deck with silver-bordered cards in the past or using Nephilim as commanders, the one thing I always try to stress is what is in my deck and why I have these cards and that I accept a no if people don't want to play against a silly deck.

I don't merely say "Here is my Glint-Eye Nephilim deck," instead I say "Here's my cool self-discard synergy theme deck with Glint-Eye Nephilim." Before I'd sit down to play with Baron Von Count I'd make sure I explained the card well to people unfamiliar with it.

In general I think that at a casual table there's little to be gained from being secretive about what your deck is doing when you're playing with strangers, but especially when you're doing something that's in violation of the normal rules of Commander. And if it's apparently all just for power, you need to be ready for people not wanting to play against it.

PadreRasta on Next new deck?

Hello! I'm absolutely addicted to creating and playing new decks whenever I can, but I feel like they are always run the same line of objectives. I need something different. Right now I have a Syr Konrad, the Grim deck based on mill, a Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger focused on a 12-rack strategy, making people go hellbent and want to punch me, a The Scorpion God deck based on -1/-1 counters & controlling the board, a Grenzo, Dungeon Warden deck on value and destruction/edicts, a Torbran, Thane of Red Fell burn chaos deck and a Neheb, the Worthy Minotaur Tribal. If you're paying attention, they all have one thing in common. Either they are mono red, mono black, or Rakdos. Well, I have a few decks that break this pattern: I own an Ayula, a Feather and a Rafiq deck, but I didn't build and brew them. I still love them very much, but they're adopted.

I am completely in favor of Jank, humor and silliness in general. Back when I started playing Magic, I brewed a modern deck themed around the number 7: seven letter names, seven p/t total, number seven somewhere in its text. Later it evolved to the number 13 because of Triskaidekaphobia, and lastly I merged them into a Baron Von Count deck that got dismantled because people hated dying on turn 5 constantly.

That is another problem I have a lot: getting targeted every game because my decks are frustrating to play against. So possibly a deck that doesn't provoke rage would be nice.

What would you beautiful people recommend me next? I have been looking into a goblin tribal (possibly Wort, Boggart Auntie), Queen Marchesa, and Kresh the Bloodbraided, but that's just Rakdos with extra steps.

I do not want any Superfriends type of deck, or decks that do everything all the time. No control stuff either.

There's ONE confirmed plane, from Unstable. Bablovia, described as a Mad Scientist world.

Its ruled by five Allied-colored groups, each ruling part of the world.

Order of the Widget- Blue/White. They're a technocracy, a government ruled by technology. They upgrade themselves into cyborgs... often for really specific reasons and because they can. Ruled by The Grand Calcutron, who is no longer human and all computer.

Agents of S.N.E.A.K.- Blue/Black. They are a kleptocracy, a government ran by thieves. They used to be a job board, but got obsessed with obtaining information and their toys and gadgets to the point spying was the only way to afford it. Also, they suck at their job. They're lead by Phoebe, Head of S.N.E.A.K.

League of Dastardly DOOM. They are an oligarchy... aka the most normal government type in the entire set. They're generic doomsday villains who all hate each other and constantly dispute whose in charge. Though they DO help support fledgling evil geniuses start. Their main leaders are Baron Von Count, The Big Idea, Mary O'Kill, and Grusilda, Monster Masher.

The Goblin Explosioneers are a Goblin kraterocratic and democratic kakistocracy... aka, they are somehow all ruled by the strong, the people... and the stupid. They like explosions. They worship hammers. They breed too fast for their bad ideas to wipe them out. Led by Ol' Buzzbark.

Crossbreed Labs is both a laboratory and a geniocracy, ruled by geniuses. They believe that one should be their true selves, usually by modifying themselves into crazy crossbreeds. Their end goal is a perfect society in which everyone can be themselves. Led by Dr. Julius Jumblemorph.

Lore dump, I know.

The card itself has a handy guide, though, just like the numbers in the art of Baron Von Count for the countdown.

But as mentioned, if you have more than two players, you don't need to specifically use the meter in the art of Water Gun Balloon Game in order to track it, just some form of five-step meter.

@TypicalTimmy, moving counters (on a single card), indicated numerals and what's listed on a text box are terms that aren't part of mainstream cards though, however; I don't see how it would create a whole lot problems either. If I were to redesign him to not have these terms I think I'd design him to work like this.

Card: Baron Von Count

Redesigned Name: Same

CMC: Same

Card Type: Legendary Creature - Human Artificer Wizard

Text: When Baron Von Count enters the battlefield each player gains 5 doom counters. Doom counters can't be proliferated and players can't have more than 5 doom counters.

Whenever a player casts a spell or discards a card with converted mana cost, power or toughness equal to the number of doom counters that player has, that player removes a doom counter. Whenever one of your opponents discards a card with converted mana cost, power or toughness equal to the number of doom counters you have, remove a doom counter.

Whenever a player removes their last doom counter, that player gains 5 doom counters and must choose a player other than Baron Von Count's controller. The chosen player loses the game.

I think spreading the Baron's game ending ability to all other players would better highlight the -aspect of this card as it would generate more chaos. It also means if a game ends up between you and another player, if that player loses all their doom counters they'd only force themselves to lose the game, so this effect would always benefit you in some way. What do you think?

Boza on Test me: $10 Decklists

After that Baron Von Count deck, I have seen that there is at least 1 card Archfiend of Ifnir that has all the numbers 1-5 in the right spots. It is too expensive for a 10 dollar deck, but just wanted to mention it.

Here is an article for less budget friendly Baron deck:

I absolutely love how a card like Slayer's Plate is a monster with Baron Von Count because it has the numbers 1,2,3 and 4. Or how level-up creatures, which have a ton of numbers on them are great with this commander. If I can convince my playgroup that uncards are OK to play, this will be a great addition to the game. Nicely done!
