Asylum Visitor is ridiculous... the first thing I thought of is that this card is going to push Modern Jund over the edge once the eldrazi winter has passed. Can you imagine replacing bob with this card? Extra power, deals less life, and you can madness her with Liliana of the Veil !! Checks both players hands also! Oh yes, and you can sac her to Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet ! Give me some feedback.

CChaos, every first set in a new block outsells the previous one. SOI > BFZ > KTK > THS > RTR...

She's no bob for sure. Bob draws cards no matter that your hand looks like and i don't believe jund goes hellbent that often since its more on the control side.

I have a hard time believing that Battle for Zendikar outsold Khans of Tarkir, or that Theros outsold Return to Ravnica.

I hope that the Visitor is affordable enough for my discard-themed Liliana, Heretical Healer Flip EDH/Commander deck <3

I don't mean to make this drag on, but I'm somewhat concerned...
"DarkLaw, fortunately, no, there could not be a Phyrexian Planeswalker. The spark actually does provide a natural immunity to the oil. It's how Venser, the Sojourner was able to cure Karn (turning him into Karn Liberated in the process). It's also why the current Planeswalkers are able to fight Phyrexia (rather ineffectually, unfortunately) without worrying about carrying the plague to other planes."
How did the phyrexians take Karn's spark? Was that ever mentioned? That aside, can the phyrexians compleat something without the use of oil? And also, how did Karn originally take the oil to his own plane if no other planeswalkers can carry the oil?
The new two cards are great. Looks like Innistrad is just too godly to mess up on.

The problem would be getting her to trigger early enough to matter in the game. You also make your opponent go hellbent easier with as much discard is in the deck with Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek, Kolaghan's Command, and lily. I think she is worth testing certainly. Up the Lily count to 4 and replace bob's. I play many a games forcing my opponent and myself to topdeck and swing in with Raging Ravine and Treetop Village.

If you're going that route, you may as well be as Aggressive as possible.

The Phyrexians never took Karn's spark. He sacrificed it to seal a time rift during the Mending, then managed to throw himself back to Mirrodin in his last moments as a planeswalker. Since he no longer had a spark, he was able to be corrupted by Phyrexian oil. Later he regained a planeswalker spark when Venser transferred his spark to the golem, which cured him of the corruption.
I believe the oil naturally converts flesh to artifice, complaeting the organism.
Karn's powerstone contains Phyrexian oil. It leaked a few drops on Mirrodin, which lead to Memnarch's madness and the eventual appearance of New Phyrexia.

If I remember correctly, he'd had the oil in him from when he fought Yawgmoth and when he lost his spark (forget exactly how, but I think it was to do with the Mending?) the oil started to kick in. Then there was a bunch of other stuff that happened and now Phyrexia is once more risen.

I feel like she is also powerful card advantage in the sense you Want to ditch her to lily like Lingering Souls vs another card you want to keep. Your opponent is down a card and you get a 3/1 at the very least.
March 18, 2016 10:43 a.m.
Interesting, it's a Champion of the Parish that's way better if you top-deck it in the late game.

Thing to note:
Regarding Thalia's Lieutenant -
"...much different feel than the other tribal lords, which you will see as the Shadows over Innistrad previews continue." - Source
2-drop vampire lord, perhaps?

Welcome to the fold is going to be crazy with Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip.
T3: Activate Jace... draw... steal your 2-drop instead of discarding.

Asylum Visitor: holy crap I love this set. I'm just gonna go put Hammer horror flicks and Let the Right One In on repeat now.
Are we going to get a new Thalia? I'm hoping so. Maybe not 'til Eldritch Moon, though.
Also, there's just no way we don't get a vamp lord. Not sure if it'll be a 2-drop, but here's hoping.

I feel like Falkenrath Gorger already qualifies as the vampire lord.

Can we talk about how Second Harvest is essentially the Green Cyclonic Rift in Commander? It's another serious win condition for token decks.
March 18, 2016 11:40 a.m.
I'm kind of sad I missed out on all this lore discussion... :(
Can we bring it back? <3
All the good spoilers will be gone by this weekend anyway.
March 18, 2016 11:46 a.m.
Oh and btw! People keep mentioning Marit Lage...
Isn't she locked up on Dominaria? I can see them summoning her hunk of ice across the multiverse to unseal her... but she's frozen in the ice wastes on Dominaria if I remember correctly...
Now if Liliana wanted to be public enemy number one...
March 18, 2016 11:48 a.m.
CastleSiege - Either you completely misread one of those cards, or you need to explain... a lot.
Those cards are nothing alike. - Second Harvest has a much larger 'setup requirement' than simply paying 7 mana to kill all of your opponents work. And even after casting it, it's not hard to simply board wipe to stop it.
Hi_diddly_ho_neighbor - I'm not sure it could be the Falkenrath Gorger.
'Lords' are typically creatures of a type that give +1/+1 to creatures of the same type (often with another ability as well)
Indulgent Aristocrat may fit the bill for that, but only giving Madness probably doesn't qualify as a 'Lord'.
March 18, 2016 11:52 a.m.
TMBRLZ - After the end of the 'Ice Age' Marit Lage left Dominaria. - Nothing has been mentioned of her since.

CastleSiege says... #31
@ Rayenous No, really? I thought it was the exact same card.
/sarcasm
I meant that it's an extremely powerful effect that can slot into MANY green decks as a win condition. It's not difficult in the slightest for a monogreen deck to pump out tokens to get value out of it. It's an instant. You cast it at the end of the player's turn before yours and you cast it when you know you're going to win with it. You shouldn't need to worry about board whipes.

Rayenous after all the times the Lands Players set her free, she's definitely roaming the multiverse.

MagicalHacker says... #33
okay, so the two most common possibilities are these:
Either CastleSiege knew that saying that a win more card is another Cyclonic Rift is controversial and incorrect, and is saying that to stir up angry discussion OR
He genuinely thinks that it's on the same level.
In the first case, conversation should be closed.
In the second case, allow me to explain. Cyclonic Rift requires no setup, is instant speed, removes creatures, removes noncreatures, and leaves it's stuff unscathed. There are also synergies with wheels. As for the Harvest, it requires you to have tons of tokens, and a way to give them haste or survive the inevitable board wipe coming soon.
March 18, 2016 12:15 p.m.
EpicFreddi says... #34
MagicalHacker the harvest is also instant speed, so you can worry less about the whipe. :)
March 18, 2016 12:21 p.m.
CastleSiege says... #35
Also means you don't need a haste enabler. In the decks this slots into - a huge number of green decks - it's a win condition, not really a win more.
March 18, 2016 12:31 p.m.
There are still more differences.
Cyclonic Rift isn't just a win-condition (in fact, it's not one). - It can, and often is, used when you are behind to let you get back in the game, and is even used to assist someone you may have 'allied' with to keep them in the game (bounce one or all creatures during an otherwise lethal attack).
The fact that you had to clarify 'in the decks this slots into', should show you another main difference. - Cyclonic Rift can slot into ANY
deck, regardless of the commander/colors/theme.
March 18, 2016 12:42 p.m. Edited.
We've already had all of the lords (Rattlechains, Not-so-Champion of the Parish, red 2/1 with no downsides and also grants madness, Thunderbreak Regent for wolves, and the almighty zombie collosus thing).
Must ask one more thing. Can something be compleated without the use of Glistening Oil?
March 18, 2016 1:02 p.m.
DarkLaw - Today's article stated that there will be more Lords to come... and the cards you listed aren't 'Lords' in the traditional sense.
March 18, 2016 1:11 p.m.
Rayenous I believe that it mentions how none of them are lords in the traditional sense. Only one does an Anthem, and they previewed that one.
More to come? Awesome if there are two cycles, but it isn't necessarily correct. Articles can be mistimed or thrown out of sync, for example. Believe me, though, I hope there are more. Lords are great.
March 18, 2016 1:33 p.m.
Why? So werewolves can wolf down everyone in standard? Woof woof. :p

I don't know wether to be happy or mad about it, but I might actually get into Standard again. Not immediately though. Buy a box, later some singles, repeat with the next set, and then by the time Origins rotates I might have a decent deck to work with!
March 18, 2016 4:14 p.m.
Why do people buy boxes? I don't understand. You just give hundreds of cards you'll never use...

I use the extra commons and uncommons to help friends that want to get into magic and learn how to build a deck, and having physical cards helps for that. Also Pauper Cubes are, IMO, the best kind of non-booster-draft.
