I'm curious about something

Legacy forum

So after watching lots of legacy matches on youtube (namely Channel Fireballs videos to be exact) and I wondered something. Some legacy decks play things with high Cmc (for example Batterskull yet in a deck with no Brainstorm or something like that, what do you do if you topdeck a high cmc card? I don't see players with more than 2 mana at any given point so does it just sit there?

Stoneforge Mystic is your friend in that situation.

I mean not just that specific card, others with huge costs too. Is it just game then?

Could you give another example then? Most Legacy decks don't run cards that make them lose when they draw it. That kind of defeats the purpose. There's almost always a way to cheat in that stuff.

Enter the Infinite is probably cast by having Omniscience in play and that would usually be cheated into play by Show and Tell

So the general thing is if you put high cmc's in your deck, have a way to cheat them out or don't put them in?

Yes.

3 cmc is usually top of the curve and 4 cmc is pushing it..

Yes, in the case of batterskull it is cheated in play from stoneforge mystic, with enter the infinite it is part of omniscience. In legacy, each card has a purpose and the deck is set up efficiently as possibly. most decks curve out at 3 or 4 but the decks that play 4/5 cmc are control decks that play jace or force of will. Also, in sneak and show or reanimator, grisslebro is never hard cast

miracles (Terminus , Entreat the Angels ) are set up with Brainstorm , Ponder , Sensei's Divining Top .

large creatures (Emrakul, the Aeons Torn , Griselbrand , Progenitus , Craterhoof Behemoth , Iona, Shield of Emeria ) are cheated in with Sneak Attack , Natural Order Show and Tell , are Reanimate d or cast off of a million elves.

others are right about Batterskull and Omniscience . 4-drops need to be able to do multiple things (Jace, the Mind Sculptor , Bloodbraid Elf )

i think that covers most of the large spells cast in legacy?
