Discussion: Adding colors to your favorite tribe

General forum

If you could add a color, or represent an existing color better, in one of your favorite tribes, which color and which tribe would that be, and why?

Furthermore, would you like to give examples of how you would utilize or improve upon those colors?

Believe it or not, Minotaur actually have representation in all five colors, albeit with extreme limitations.

We all know of Tahngarth, First Mate and some may even remember Deadshot Minotaur. We also know of Boros Reckoner.

But how many of you recall the four blue Minotaur, including a mono-blue one?

Personally, I'd love to see more . Really fire off into Jund, appropriately. And why shouldn't we get Green and even Golgari Minotaur?

I could see Golgari Minotaur, cultivating burial sites and raising the dead through Shamanic rituals.

Skeletons right now are mainly , followed by a tie between and , with very close behind and in a distant fifth. For multicolor, that makes Golgari, Rakdos, and Jund all good options, with Grixis, Sultai and non-white 4C potential. I'm happy with this overall. I'm not sure I could choose a tighter focus, especially for three colors--Grixis would mean surrendering my beloved , but the flavor potential is just too good!

I always thought blue minotaurs made so much sense, being the enforcers of mazes (which are also very blue, in my mind). I was a little disappointed to see them go into black, but it’s understandable. I like securing tribes in single colors because I like the idea of drawing clear lines between the colors. A world where all colors have counterspells or goblins or krakens seems a little less magical...

More white squirrels. Non-artifact Scarecrows. NOGGLES. There's 4. All Izzet. Let's get some Golgari Noggles.

I think we all deserve some black, zombie Aurochs... Or just any aurochs... Please?

Spirits have been traditionally Blue/White; I’d enjoy seeing an off color spirit retaining the same control/bounce ETB effects common to the Azorius variety.

I guess it's not really adding a color so much as it's adding support. I'd love to see abzan Elf tribal be more of a thing in edh. I ran karador as my Elf commander for a long time and liked it very much but it was hard to take advantage of the mana elves can produce when you can only cast one creature from the grave a turn. Also g/w Elves in general don't do much for Elf tribal as a whole.

I would love to see krakens get more support in either green or black I think both work in different ways as we have seen with Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle and Wrexial, the Risen Deep. I am leaning more towards black for the lovecraftian horror.

I would spread goblins out into either green or blue... but I can't really thematically justify it.

But Grixis or Jund goblins sounds like a blast to play. =D

Although now that I think about it for a second, I could see Mardu goblins as also appropriate. Goblins are small, swarming creatures that sort of "give each other strength" (though not literally). Soldiers in white are similar, so I could totally see myself making a Mardu Goblins deck that my playgroup hates also.

Gattison Ankle Shanker and Ponyback Brigade say hello!

I be most happy with more multicolor Vedalken--we've seen Skatewing Spy (a mono-blue Vedalken from the Simic Combine) and Mizzium Meddler (a mono-blue Vedalken from the Izzet League). Unfair! Plus all the mono-blue Vedalken from Esper... just the worst

My favorite tribe by far is bears. All but 2 of them are green with only Ursine Fylgja in white and Phantasmal Bear in blue. I don´t care for blue at all but I´d love to see more white/selesnya bears or maybe a few red/gruul bears.

But I´m also happy with them if they are mono green forever since bears are just the best whatever color they are :)

Black, evil, shadowmoory Kithkins. But actually any Kithkin would suffice. It's been too long since I saw one.

passimo - I’m not in favor of it, but we might see kithkin give way to halflings. I’m a little worried things may tip that way in general...it would be a shame...

I would like to see more green support in Zombies. Especially outside of Ravnica.

FormOverFunction: I'm fearing that too. Also because apparently I'm the only one that liked the Lorwin block, at least according to R&D, so we won't see a "return to Lorwin" anytime soon, and that's the only plane where I ever saw Kithkins =(

August 11, 2021 4:50 p.m.

Don’t lose faith, passimo, there were kithkin we’ll before then. We may see -kin- of the Amrou Kithkin in dominaria again ;p

passimo, if the rumors are true and we are getting Kamagawi: Neon Destiny or whatever the Cyberpunk nonsense is, I can 100% guarantee we will see Lorwyn again.

And yes, Lorwyn is a beautiful set and flavorful world.

passimo and FormOverFunction I think you're safe with Kithin. Kithkin are a MtG property, and Halflings are a D&D property. Even though they're both WotC-owned, it would be like Hasbro letting My Little Pony give way to Monopoly. I'd expect to see Kithkin in the future.

More white elves.

White was typically the second color for elves before the Lorwyn/Morningtide sets where they got black, then went back to using white for Shadowmoor/Eventide.

We've seen a handful of white elves since then, but all the tribal support, especially the legends, are either mono-green or green-black. Would be nice to see them go back to their roots with this tribe, especially as white is a fitting choice for them.

To be frank I'm really proud of my Selesnya cats, and if I could choose a color for cats that is really underrepresented is .
