Viable ways to counter instants with White/Green
Deck Help forum

Hey everyone, disclaimer up front: I'm new to the game (about a month in).
I have a White/Green deck that focuses on mana ramping and launching big creatures early at effective costs.
My question is this: is there a good way to counter opponent instant spells within this color configuration? Specifically, a friend of mine likes to wait until I build up my creatures and then take them over with Mob Rule, effectively wiping me out.
I'm adjusting strategy to not flood the board with creatures, but is there a way to counter this from the outset?
I'd thought about running some Sylvan Caryatid or Sheltered Aerie and putting in some Dissolve, but am wary about relying on a combo like that.
Here's what I'm working with: Growing Strong.
Any ideas?
Habiki If you want counters, you're gonna want Blue. There's practically nothing in Green or White that can counter stuff, let alone in standard.
Hexproof doesn't matter with Mob Rule, as the card targets EVERYTHING, not just one specific thing, so he can still take your stuff. Just wanted to clear that one up... I think that's how it works...
But ya, if you want some good counters for BLUE, then I would suggest Swan Song, Dissolve, and Negate. These three will hit the stuff you want, with their own perks.

For G/W there are ways to deal with mob rule such as Winds of Qal Sisma keep it in hand till mob rule comes around then bam no damage that turn, you get your creatures back, then you promptly make him pay muahahahah, also Dragonlord Dromoka makes it so your opponent cannot use spells on your turn pretty good against control hope this helps. If you are looking for counter spells you are going to have to go blue.

doesn't really do counters. You have access to some fringe cards like Guttural Response, Dawn Charm, Autumn's Veil, Mana Tithe, etc., and many protection or counter-something-that-targets-a-permanent effects, but you don't have access to real counterspells unless you get some blue in the deck. Your options are even more limited if you're looking for Standard cards.
If you're playing casually, grab some Homeward Paths.

Runlue you are correct about hexproof only if it targets the hexproof creature ie target creature does hexproof apply.

Dromoka's Command if your worried about burn spells. But yea if your specifically trying to counteract mob rule, a fog effect is your best bet.

You could splash for blue and play bant, but nothing works in those colors.

Thanks for the insight. I'd been so focused on preventing the playing of the card that I hadn't thought about simply negating it's effects with something like Winds of Qal Sisma or Revealing Wind. Either of those would make him waste the card and mana, and would be more reliable than counting on a blue combo as I was originally thinking.
I also wasn't aware hexproof worked that way. Good to know for those Fleecemane Lion's. I appreciate the insights.

Not sure if the way hexproof works was made clear enough in this thread.
Mob Rule gets around hexproof because it doesn't target anything, not because it "targets everything". If the card says "target", it can't "target" the opponent's creatures with hexproof, only your own. Shroud works the same way, but not even your own cards can target creatures with shroud.

Like everyone else said, Not much for White/Green. However, maxing out your sideboard can help. Mistcutter Hydra, Dragonlord Dromoka, Display of Dominance all help with control decks.

If you do decide to go Bant I strongly recommend Stratus Dancer.

This doesn't work for the Mob Rule issue, but you can protect your creatures from quite a bit using Gods Willing, Ranger's Guile, Ajani's Presence, Mortal's Resolve, and so many other spells

Everything is still pretty casual, but I'm trying to keep my stuff standard legal so I'm ready to go whenever I decide to attend some local events.
Stratus Dancer would actually be a real good low cost method if I want to try out a bit of blue. Good suggestion.
I think I'll try pulling out my Salt Road Quartermasters and possibly one or both of my Scale Blessing's for some Winds of Qal Sisma. They shouldn't mess with my creature deployment too much, and can offer some low cost utility in other situations as well.

EDIT
I said instants, but Mob Rule is in fact a sorcery. Ideas on good ways to counter either type would be welcome.
Thanks.
