Rupture Spire / Transguild Promenade vs. Mirrodin's Core

Commander Deck Help forum

I'm playing a slivers 5-colored deck, which already includes Cavern of Souls, Command Tower, City of Brass, Mana Confluence, Exotic Orchard, Grand Coliseum, Sliver Hive, Thran Quarry and one Vivid land from Lorwyn.

I need some advice about Rupture Spire or Transguild Promenade vs. Mirrodin's Core.

Which one is more consistent in your opinion?

None of them. Put in Reflecting Pool and Forbidden Orchard.

I second the reflecting pool. But if its between t he cards you mentioned, then go with Mirrodins Core.

That and Pillar of the Paruns are ok, however they are conditional which can be a problem.

Hey guys thank you for the responses.

Reflecting Pool and Forbidden Orchard are definetely on my 'Acquire List'.

I've played Ancient Ziggurat for some time a while ago and the restriction on the mana it produces left it out of the deck. Was having trouble casting the rest of the deck since I'm playing 26 creatures.

Pillar of the Paruns would seem to have the same problem, I only play 10 multicolored spells.

The thing is, in some games when Rupture Spire or Transguild Promenade are dropped and paid for on turn two then the colored mana issue is solved.

On the other hand, Mirrodin's Core needs to be charged up, so it's still a bit slow.

I believe you that Core is better than Spire or Promenade, but why? I can't figure out the reason hehehe.

Go at this one sideways. Try either of Cryptolith Rite or Earthcraft

Thank you for the input, though I'm running Chromatic Lantern and also Prismatic Omen. I'm trying the interaction of the latter with Collective Restraint as a Propaganda on steroids.

You realize though that while Omen combos with it, Chromatic Lantern and Collective Restraint have no interaction with each other?

Also, the reason why I suggested Rite and Earthcraft are because they turn your slivers into mana dorks, which both provides mana ramp and color fixing. Lantern primarily gives color fixing. While it's an auto-include because your deck is 5C, its role in your ramp suite isn't exactly the same as those two.

Mirrodin's Core is a seriously underrated card, and is significantly better than Transguild Promenade or the Spire. Especially if you're running instants or intend to do a lot of things during other people's turns.

Turns where you don't tap out all your mana are actually really common in EDH. Unless you draw perfectly (which is definitely a problem to have, BTW) you will never have problems finding a turn or two to put charge counters on Mirrodin's Core, and most decks will only ever need two or three; there's no need to get greedy.

That said, it depends on the deck you're building. I have only made one deck which struggled with Mirrodin's core; my Scion of the Ur-Dragon deck had violent swings in mana needs, going from four red mana one turn to six black the next, followed up by three blue. Sometimes without untap phases between. Core was still in the deck, but it never did well because the color stresses were huge and happened every turn.

Even proxied fetches and shocks couldn't keep up, as when you fetch to a shock you lock your future mana options to only two mana colors. That's just not good enough when your commander, at any given moment, might turn into a dragon needing three or four mana of any given color. In this instance, Transguild Promenade was far and away a better land, hit on tempo be damned. But Core was still a good land to have.

Omeros yeah, I'm aware that Lantern can't interact with Collective Restraint, but I'm running one basic land of each type, plus ten shock lands and currently 2 "tango" lands (the forest ones) to get the types for the Restraint with Omen on top of that. As for mana dorks, I'm playing both mana slivers.

I was interested on tempo reasons Egann just exposed.

Thank you all for the responses, I guess I'll leave the Core in as it was. It's just that from time to time Spire and Promenade are just asking to be included hehehe

You could always just use Dream Halls and say to hell with paying mana.

Transguild Promenade and Rupture Spire are kind of terrible. I still use them in one deck because I am okay with not being particularly competitive. But, they are far too slow most of the time, and shouldn't be considered seriously if there's a reasonably passable alternative.

Meteor Crater works considerably well.

NoNeedToBragoBoutIt I thought of that one but the thing is that early game it does nothing and it's then when I need different colored mana the most.
