Need a new commander

Commander Deck Help forum

Looking to get more into building commander decks rather than just focusing on one and playing it. I'm relatively new to commander and I'd like some more experience building decks.

Comment commanders you'd like to see decks of and I'll make them!

Admiral Beckett Brass I'm currently building one r/n, and I'd like to see an outside opinion.

The two Commanders I am loving to play at the current moment include Meren of Clan Nel Toth and Sram, Senior Edificer and I have lists for both should you be interested in both budget and non budget options. My other choice that I would throw in is Baral, Chief of Compliance he has been fun for me as well recently. Those are my two cents! I hope you are enjoying the format so far!

Horobi, Death's Wail is amazing and completely changes the game. My list is BLACK, Deck of Lords and Titles.

Stonebrow, Krosan Hero is the commander I have been wanting to build, but have not made it to yet. Fill it full of haste and stompy tramplers.

how about this, gatherer search the ones you seem even the faintest bit of interest in building. Then use random.org to figure out which commander you are building.

KingMathoro I've heard good things about Meren of Clan Nel Toth, is she good for a casual deck? Most decks I've seen with her are highly competitive.

ACDAMAN

Oh yeah certainly! She can be as casual as you want her to be. She can also be competitive. I have played her both ways so I know it's possible. How casual are you wanting it? Just out of my own curiosity.

KingMathoro My playgroup is a REALLY casual playgroup, 2 out of the 8 people run some sort of group hug deck. I'm really not in it to win it here.

Yeah I mean you could just run a bunch of fun graveyard shenanigans that aren't very competitive in any sense. And since it wouldn't be competitive you could build her on a super low budget. Although I won't lie, she still does really well even when strapped for cash. She is a powerful commander after all lol

Meren is BAE. King is correct, she is just value town. I have a durdley list (Meren of the Unhallowed Surge) that can be explosive and oppressive, when someone at the table is being too self involved. Otherwise she is super fun and I get compliments on her all the time.

On the other hand Meren gets out of hand extremely quickly because there's no way to interact with the experience counters. Expect that someone's going to realize like I did that the weakest link of the Meren deck is Meren and will just remove her every time. If you want to keep Meren casual my recommendation is that you avoid playing anything with a Slum Reaper type effect.

All that said though I am biased because I've played against Meren a lot and have had long discussions with my friend about his decks where the best thing I can do is make sure he never keeps his commander. You don't have to go that competitive.

I'm a big fan of Meren of Clan Nel Toth and other graveyard based decks like Karador, Ghost Chieftain and Gisa and Geralf because they provide so much value. Playing a creature card from the graveyard is so fundamentally powerful. Kess, Dissident Mage seems like lots of fun for the same reasons except she is for building more of a spellslinger deck. Personally I think it's easier for me to make a powerful casual deck based around creatures then instants and sorceries but maybe that's more your play style and it would work better for you. Rashmi, Eternities Crafter is lots of fun because who doesn't like free stuff? Currently my favorite deck to pilot is either Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest or Experiment Kraj. I have deck lists for for almost all the Commander's I just mentioned you can see them if you click on my profile name. In case you didn't notice the common thread between many of these different commanders is that they all create card advantage on their own. If you find commanders that do that it doesn't matter what your deck does because you're always winning a little bit.

Hey, ACDAMAN. Welcome to EDH. Since you're new to EDH, why not play with mono-colored decks? Some people use a Mikaeus, the Unhallowed to start with, as they like the combos. Shoot, an out of box Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury is also a good start. I have a Purphoros, God of the Forge deck in which I let the new commander players in the shop use, and it's simple to play but hits everyone (Especially the people with multiple color decks) pretty hard. I personally just like the simplicity of mono-red speed and no-diplomacy burning. I'm putting my deck down below as an example. Good luck!

Hello ! I am new in tappedout and I need some advice for my new commander deck. I hope that I'm in the correct thread !I already made a deck in this site based on an Sidisi, Brood Tyrant commander deck. So here's my deck : Sidisi, brood tyrant [EDH, Reanimator]. I think that the biggest problem I have is my mana pool. With only 32 lands for an average mana curve of 5 I wont play at all. Even if I have Cryptolith Rite it's really not enough for me. I want to base my combo with those cards :Sidisi, Brood Tyrant (of course), Cryptolith Rite, Grimgrin, Corpse-Born, Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, Meren of Clan Nel Toth, Razaketh, the Foulblooded and Tombstone Stairwell. The rest of my card should help to cast them, to cast token and put creatures in my graveyard. Ramunap Excavator should be enough for all the land put in the graveyard with Sidisi, Brood Tyrant abilitie

KeroroLulu This isn't the right place to post your deck... You should put it on the Advertise your COMMANDER deck page! That way people can give you help on your decks too. Also, you might want to fix your description to something like what you put in the comments here. Don't forget to cycle your deck too!
