Significant Changes —Aug. 2, 2016

I'll update description when I have some time. Mainly added a bunch more zombies to even out mana curve. Deck is testing very well with these changes.

I've said it on your other deck list but I fully Believe Contingency Plan and Geralf's Masterpiece deserve a spot in this deck Contingency Plan just synergizes with this deck in being able to get what you want into your grave without sacrificing key pieces and Late game it just sets you up for your final turn kill. Geralf's Messenger is a Beast hold three cards in hand and end of their turn pitch to play from the grave bring Prized Amalgam with Him and swing big

Experiencing playing against masterpiece it's a bad card, especially when discarding two to bring it in. I haven't lost to a single zombie deck that plays that card specifically because they lose card advatange and it's an easy kill creature.

I think Geralf's Masterpiece can be very useful against creature centered decks where removal isn't an issue. I plan on testing it in SB, but with all the removal being played in standard I don't think it fits in MB for my deck. As for Contingency Plan I may give this one a go. I like the option of sending to GY or reordering upcoming cards. Thanks for the feedback.

Having Stitchwing Skaab or Advanced Stitchwing, or something you can put on the battlefield without casting, has worked well for me against control decks. Lots of good cards, thanks for the suggestion for my zombie deck.

Thanks PewterMule I am considering both. My only fear is losing the card advantage. I may be able to make it up with cards like Forgotten Creation and Altar's Reap. If so I plan on adding one of them in for sure. Plus the flying would help a lot.

I agree with Geralf's Masterpiece....it is expensive. I have played and played that card trying to make it work, but cleaning out my hand has been difficult to recover from unless you can discard 2-3 Amalgams.

Hey kcpainter,

Because you commented and helped me on my deck, let me try to help you on yours.I have play-tested zombies on xmage quite a bit. I use to have two Compelling Deterrence sideboard, and I could never mind a good match up for them. Sure, it is a 2 for 1 (Or it is a 1 for 1 because you have to discard if you pick up a permanent of yours). Although nonland permanent are nice to bounce, I think killspells are better because the meta is heavily creature based. I would recommend an additional Dark Salvation. They duel as a 1 mana kill spell and a mana outlet if you are flooding. For instant speed kill spells, I would run Grasp of Darkness over Ultimate Price. I would sideboard 1-2 Ultimate Price, and run some Grasp of Darkness main-board. I love that you are running Altar's Reap. The other card I cannot get behind is Graf Harvest. Because you are running an aristocratic zombie build,I think menace isn't that essential. I see the other effect coming in handy, but also counterintuitive. I would just run 2 more Cryptbreaker in Graf Harvest's place. Cryptbreaker gets thing into your graveyard while also producing zombies.

That is my take on things,

Thanks again for helping me out and I would love to stay in contact with you to keep building a better deck list,

I've played against Graf Harvest and it made it really hard to limit the damage. My creatures were bigger and I had less but I had to pick the ones to block. I do agree with Grasp of Darkness over Ultimate Price might help with your bant issues especially seeing as the new bant is even more annoying. I'd also have to agree with Compelling Deterrence though keep it within SB for when you are facing a PW deck. The decks I've played against that use Cryptbreaker this thing has been under whelming.. Though I do see how it could be beneficial especially with your flip lili abilities and possibly discarded prized to trigger a return ontop of another return and create a 2/2.

Thanks for the feedback RFW. I think you have a point with Compelling Deterrence. I am considering Grasp of Darkness again (I run it in the current deck) and Murder in its place. As for Graf Harvest I'm not 100% sold either. It's seems like it would have amazing potential, but we shall see. I may add in a little more death ot return from GY like 2 more Altar's Reap or even Ever After in its place.

I took Zulaport Cutthroat out of this because I didn't find I was sacrificing enough to make it worth it and he isn't contributing to anything that cares about zombies. Also took out Forgotten Creation as I don't find I have hands I want to dump frequently enough by the time I'm up to 4 mana. Usually he just ends up being a vanilla 3/3. Just replaced him with Kalitas for now. Also replaced Liliana with the new one because I don't see the advantage in discarding cards here.

Thanks NotNotNot for the feedback. I feel Zulaport Cutthroat for sure has a place in this deck with Fleshbag Marauder, Nantuko Husk, Westvale Abbey  Flip and Altar's Reap all sacrificing creatures. Not to mention helping me recover from board wipes like Languish and Planar Outburst. Forgotten Creation is a new addition and may not make the final cut. I have also considered Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet I'm just not 100% yet. Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip does amazing for me, and she is staying in. I'll replace with the new one when she rotates out. Are you running Cryptbreaker, and if do how is he doing for you?

Also an up vote would be appreciated if you like the deck.

I don't like Cryptbreaker. If zombie tokens didn't come out tapped you'd likely be able to activate his ability more often. As is, you often have to skip a round of damage just to draw one card. And if you can't even do that much, you just paid 2 for a 1/1 that does nothing. There are much easier ways to draw cards. I'd even consider Cemetery Recruitment over him. His discard ability is almost entirely irrelevant.

I took Kalitas out and just added more of other things. The best "cares about zombies" effects in here are pulling things back with Gisa and Geralf and triggering Diregraf Colossus for free tokens, so whenever I play a non-zombie creature I feel kind of bad. Also, I have to say while it may look cool having all zombies out, these effects aren't anywhere near as powerful as what's going on in standard right now, and will be why zombies can't be competitive.
