I used to play standard like you...
This is a unique, fun, SUPER budget magic deck utilizing some interesting black "equipment" combos. $15, or only 2 TIX!
1) Phylactery Lich. Just amazing. Of course, we need to have lots of targets to guarantee it will stick on turn 3.
2) Deathtouch and Viridian Longbow can set up a "kill a creature for free every turn" engine by turn 3. If the equipped creature dies, it's fine, because we can just re-equip it to something else.
In addition to these combos, the cards in this deck are designed to go well with each other no matter what. Even if you lose your phylactery lichs and veridian longbows, you're fine.
Average win: Turn 5-7. Don't let the slowness fool you though, the deck is good at controlling the opponent's board, gaining life, and having threats that are hard to deal with. It's kinda like a $2 Jund deck.
I wanted to put Never / Return in the deck, but the mana is too tight (with all the equipping) to be able to use it over Victim of Night.
Still experimenting with Inquisitor's Flail, and then random support cards like Duress. I want to put duress in, but the problem is that the deck relies too much on casting things more proactive. It also makes the T3 longbow lock a little trickier.
I want to like Accorder's Shield, because if put on a gifted aetherborn or nighthawk it gives you a 2/6 with vigilance, gaining you 2 life every turn (plus maybe on your opponent's turn), and also it kills every creature that blocks it/ it blocks. It also combos well with the longbow cause you can tap before your upkeep to use the ability anyway. In other words, the shield allows a longbow creature to still attack and block every single turn. I just can't get it to work cause it doesn't provide any extra damage... The axes are really great on vault skirge.
What the deck could currently benefit from is inevitability... We have threats, but we don't have much in the way of threats that are hard to deal with, or are overwhelmingly powerful. Any ideas of bigger creatures that can synergize well with the deck?
