More control, less squishy combos —June 27, 2015

Although it was always fun it worked out, I removed Springleaf Drum and Lantern Kami. They are mainly there for Tallowisp (and the mana was partially useful for tri-colored variants). Without it, they often ended up useless.

Lantern Kami with Curiosity can be pretty neat against some decks, but it is very risky, especially without Drogsgol Captain, and more often than not you'll just invite instant speed removal and get anything but card advantage out of it.

Serum Visions provides a more stable start at the early game to get some topdeck control, and returning to a full playset of Geist of Saint Traft and Eidolon of Countless Battles increases the chances of drawing at least one, plus multiple Eidolons actually work great with each other, as well as Geist.
Lastly, I added one Spirit Mantle, which is a nice option to tutor up with Tallowisp, aisde from being just generally useful, particularly in conjunction with Geist.

Sometime earlier I've also added Sage's Reverie when it came out in Fate Reforged. It is a very potent card in this deck. At the very least, it cantrips, but more often than not, it is usually at least a Concentrate that also provides a substation power boost, while as usually being fetchable with Tallowisp.
Plus it synergizes very nicely with Kor Spiritdancer. Even if your opponent destroys her, you'll probably still be the one that ended up with card advantage.
It might even be worth playing more than one, but at four mana (without any accel) I shouldn't include too many, at least not until I add more Spiritdancers.

It's a really cool idea except it seems perhaps a little inconsistent. +1 anyways :) Also wondering why you use Scalding Tarn and Marsh Flats .

You're completely right about the inconsistency, Nefferean.
It just lacks that one card or two that pulls it all together.
Dreamcatcher would be that card if only he could be sacrificed for two cards instead - this would make it an ideal drop in any turn, result in higher chances of drawing the cards I need, allow to cast pitched Shoals without card disadvantage, and synergize with Tallowisp and basically every other card in the deck.
But unfortunately Wizards barely gave the players any good Spiritcraft cards to work with.

So right now (and presumably for the next couple of years), casual will be the only choice for this kind of deck...

Scalding Tarn and Marsh Flats are there for the usual job, i.e. deck-thinning and mana-fixing (by getting Hallowed Fountain if needed), since ally-color duals like Flooded Strand aren't Modern legal...well, at least for now.

But you're right, this deck probably doesn't need as many of them. I originally put Marsh Flats in because this deck also had some black in it.
I thought about exchanging them for Misty Rainforest s instead, so by adding Temple Garden and Breeding Pool , I could splash green for Karametra's Favor (and possibly Bear Umbra ).
Both auras turned out very useful after some testing, but running green just for them (especially Bear Umbra due to the really bothersome double-green cost) isn't necessarily worth it.

Ok that's what I thought they were for. And I agree with the double green on the Bear Umbra being annoying.

@juicytoot: Ethereal Armor fits this deck, but if you check my updates for this card (CTRL + F), you'll notice I originally used it, but exchanged it for Hyena Umbra .

Card advantage (Curiosity ) or protection against removal (Hyena Umbra ) is more important in this deck than a potentially strong buff, since I don't have too many hexproof targets and therefore try reducing the risk of getting two-for-one'd as this deck is inconsistent enough as is.

But it's a cheap, powerful buff nonetheless, so I might add a singleton again the future when I have other cards to work with.

very cool and interesting deck. i don't really think the Kor Spiritdancer is that neccessary where maybe some removal or card draw would be better. I know it can draw you cards but using enchantments on it and not a spirit seems risky

Well demongod, casting enchantments on her is in fact risky.
And her not being a spirit (despite having "Spiritdancer" in the name :P) is a real bummer.
But that's also not the reason why I run her.

As you said, she can draw cards. And that's why she's in there, because a two-drop that can draw you multiple cards is worth a lot.

While not remotely as reliable as Dark Confidant , she can still turn out more advantageous in this deck. I have a considerable amount of (cheap) Auras (that I can also fetch with Tallowisp ), and let's not forget about Eidolon of Countless Battles . Its bestow ability is excellent with her, since it also triggers her ability and can be cast on her to make her huge without risking to lose both.
