Trying this out, figuring out optimization. If you're interested in a modern version, see my modern version of the deck.
In legacy you can do some more interesting things to manipulate the opponent and keep them from playing the game.
Hymn to Tourach
is an automatic include to go along with
Thoughtseize
and
Inquisition of Kozilek
. Obviously you want to get as many
Shrieking Affliction
and
The Rack
on the field as possible to go for game.
Smallpox
is devastating early game and gets around indestructible and hexproof/shroud. The inclusion of
Sinkhole
is equally devastating, especially since you get to keep your land and have early game advantage.
Liliana of the Veil
is an obvious include, along with Ensaring Bridge to keep your opponents from swinging out.
My little twist is where things get interesting. I decided to go with 4
Inkmoth Nexus
and 3
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
. I found that the likelihood that I get flooded with the latter is a lot less if I keep the number at 3, and I can always play extras from sacrificing the one on the field with
Smallpox
. If for some reason your opponent finds a work around for
The Rack
and
Shrieking Affliction
, you can always use the infect creature from
Inkmoth Nexus
to swing for a slow and steady 10 infect counters for game. This works especially well with Ensaring Bridge over
Mutavault
which you usually see in these types of decks. The latter creates a 2/2, while this one creates a 1/1, so all you have to do is draw for turn, hold the card in hand, tap one of any mana to make the creature, swing, and discard the card or play it.
Liliana of the Veil
is especially good with her +1 symmetrical discard affect.
Sideboard is pretty expensive but self-explanatory.
Leyline of the Void
for Dredge or Reanimator,
Leyline of Sanctity
for burn,
Surgical Extraction
to disable decks and certain combos, and
Spellskite
for control heavy match ups.
Hope you like this, and let me know what you think!
