He's MAD! THIS SUMMER ... PREPARE FOR ...

ATOG II!

No more Mr. "Passive Resistance" - He's out to KICK SOME BUTT. This is one bad MUTHA you DON'T wanna mess with!

He's throwin' you down like a fool on the stool, when he's comin' to town, you'll be goin' back to school. He's got the chops to be runnin' the shops, and most importantly, friends - he knows the opps! And if you think that you can guess his next move, don't ask him to tell ya, he's totally smoov! When it comes to the locks he's got the keys, he had 'em all made in Antiquities! The O.G. Atog started the war, and he's still got the gas to settle the score! Go a few rounds, and soon you'll find, the artifact muncher's out of his mind - and he's comin' for you, so tell me, Mr. Suitcase. what'cha gonna do!?

Simple - you play Black Vise, Defense Grid, Blood Moon to make way for Price of Progress, Fireblast (free cast for the kill!), and Sudden Impact! Atog also munches all these artifacts for the killing blow if the previous weren't enough, aided by Ball Lightning - and Red Elemental Blast makes sure I'll be able to push anything through the usual wrenches the "Counterspell Crew" likes to throw at me. Especially if someone's paid the cost of a D-Grid, then a R.E.B. really takes the wind out of an opponent's sails. Winds of Change is for those time where I've got nothing, or I want to gaffle an opponent who kept their opening hand and throw them into chaos. Hope those 7 are as good as the previous. Sometimes they might be ok with it, but it's not in there for them - this is for me to cycle through my stack of crap that much faster. Speaking of, that's where Howling Mine comes in - a card I don't see getting countered a whole lot. Most folks seem to be ok with it until it becomes obvious what I'm doing.

To put it succinctly: it's a budget deck that can play against the ones that cost an arm and a leg, really throw 'em a curveball or two with cards they ain't used to seeing.

Right now, most of the cards that folks would usually peg as cards that would go in the sideboard are already in the maindeck. The R.E.B., Moon, Price of Progress, D-Grid... but Citadel of Pain and Power Surge are fun punishers that work together - end of turn, Citadel will punish, and at the beginning of the next turn, Surge will punish. When an opponent only has Mountains thanks to the Moon, there's not a lot of reason to tap them - but since mana burn is no longer a thing, Price of Glory is one of those that will either kill all someone's lands, which I'm ok with, or keep someone from tapping them and thus allowing Surge to punish...one way or another. Slice and Dice is one of those punishers that gets 1/1 weenies and allows me to draw off of it at the same time, all without worry of countermagic slowing me down. A final Blood Moon in the side is in case I really want to maximize my odds of seeing it.

Gamble is on the "maybe" list for now - not sure if I want this over Winds, I sort of like the idea that the Winds allows me to name the deck what I've named it.

Price of Progress is a card I used to love back in the day. Tempest block is the time I first started buying booster packs, having been introduced to the game with a Mirage starter deck. So the moment that I found out there was a card out there that punished the players running all those expensive "pain lands" (like Underground River, Ancient Tomb, Crystal Vein, City of Traitors, etc.), I knew I had to get myself a full 4 copies. I took to nicknaming it "POP", for the image of popping someone right in the jaw with it out of nowhere, and for the fact that P.O.P. = Price of Progress. For the longest time, I played in every deck I built specifically so I could run all 4 copies of it, since it was a card everyone expected to see in the sideboard, NOT your "main" deck. Getting hit with the Price at EOT during the 1st game was always a surprise to these players, and I used to say, when building a deck: "I gotta have my POPs!"
