Y U no spore?! —June 23, 2013

Creature Feature — THEME & FLAVOR 1/2

Since the amount of ooze and fungus creatures has slowly gone higher and higher, I can finally start to be picky about what I include in my deck. With limited amount of creature-spots, I decided to make a priority list for different creatures.

1. True Thallids

Fungus creatures that have the Spore Counter mechanic. True thallids benefit most from Thelon's abilities. Thallids are also on top tier for lore reasons as Thelon is the original creator of the thallids.

2. Fungalkin

Creatures with creature type Fungus and nothing else. They won't benefit as much from Thelon but have powerful and fun(gus) abilies of their own.

3. Oozes

Creatures with creature type Ooze and nothing else. I prefer oozes that accumulate +1/+1 counters since they benefit most from proliferate spells and good ol' Corpsejack and in turn give boost to Fungal Behemoth.

4. Fungal Halfbreeds

Creature type Fungus and something else. Halfbreed creatures bring unwanted creature types (like snake or lizard) to the deck. Because these creature types clash with the deck's theme, they will be first to go.

5. Ooze Halfbreeds

Creature type Ooze and something else. Same reason as with Fungus Halfbreeds, no foreign life forms allowed. Only exception would be if WotC decided to create Slime Mold that is Creature - Ooze Fungus. *wink* *wink*

Song of the Worm — THEME & FLAVOR 2/2

To enforce the deck's theme, I picked spells that I think Thelon as a deranged druid would use to fight his enemies.

1. Fungal Magic

Cards that have something to do with fungi or oozes. Thelon's call makes fungus grow faster and summons up primordial goo from the bowels of the earth.

2. Blights & Decomposing

Fungal spores cause terrible infections in Thelon's enemies, causing everything to wither and die under his unforgiving gaze.

3. The Icky Stuff

From Thelon's command the land shakes in turmoil and vomits up all those squirming masses of sticky creatures that dwell underground.

4. Treacherous Bog

These spells bring awful stench of decaying plants and animals straight from the damp heart of the marshlands. The swamp is not your friend and will try to fill up your lungs with muck if you are not careful.

5. Druidic Powers

From death springs new life and thus the cycle is complete.

"As the climate worsened, some Thelonites turned to fertilizing
with fresh blood in an attempt to keep Havenwood alive and growing."

Thanks from all the ideas and comments. ;)

Sporemound is guaranteed to get spot when M14 is released. I just wish there would be more ooze/fungus creatures, poor Thelon is getting only around one or two new creatures per set. I'm also hoping that Scavenging Ooze is reprinted as rare so the prices would go down. If it drops to 8-12$ I might be able to squeeze it in.
