Playtesting —Oct. 5, 2019

After testing the deck for a while I made some changes to make it faster via a lot of ramp. The deck is now at a point were I feel comfortable playin against actual modern decks and I am very happy with it.

You can probably afford to run just two Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip. You don't really want to get more than one per game, anyway. Skyshroud Ranger goes pretty well with Cultivate, too. I wouldn't personally run Rancor in this deck, because some of your big hitters already fly or have trample, and in other situations you've got sheer numbers to get through. If you cut Song of Freyalise, I'd add another Beacon of Creation and a forest. Relying solely on forests for mana (and having more ways to get them in play in large quantities) is making the beacon stronger than it was with Llanowar Elves and Song of Freyalise, generally speaking. But if you run more Skyshroud Ranger it would be nice to try your best to make sure you have lands in hand to play with it. I'd try going up to at least 24 total.

ellie-is great advise. I will try and go up to 24x Forest and go with only 2x Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip

I have been playing Standard for about 2 years, but have never made the transition to Modern - suppose I am never really happy with the decks I put together. While trolling through Mono-Green decks on tapped out (looking for ideas to upgrade an elf deck that I have actually built) I came across your deck and it really got me thinking. I initially thought that I could easily play your deck with a few slight modifications, mainly to reduce the number of cards that I would need to buy in. After playing around a bit I ended up with Can I bug you? M. See what you think.

A shame Living Hive can't find a home here. I'm afraid 8 mana is just too expensive.

Deruvid yes sadly thats the case. I love the card itselve but its just too mana intense

Never mind bringing bug spray - who ever is facing this deck should bring an exterminator or simply burn down the bloody building! This deck is nasty and needs to be countered or mind controlled or Magic controlled at all costs. You sir are a nasty but good deck builder. I am thinking about making an Azorius Horse/Cat token deck for Standard with a lot of Magic and Mind control. Got any tips? Because quite frankly, I am glad you are not my usual opponent (Mostly play Commander/EDH).

Ravenrose I play an updated and modified version of the Feline Ferocity commander deck. A lot of these cards would do great in a modern deck, but I think that I would start with a standard deck like Kittens Play, try to work in Crested Sunmare and the search for better versions of key cards. I did previously play a version of Kittens Play with Cryptolith Rite and Second Harvest and token generation was rather wild. If you can cast something like Asceticism (there are cheaper cmc alternatives -cant think of them right now) early in the game - just go wild.

Ravenrose thanks! Im not to familiar about azorius cards but for horses and cats with an Focus on tokens Horse kitties seems like a very good foundation to build your own style with.

Damn, it's great to see how much appreciation your deck received in about a week. Congratulations for this. I hope you'll get some new insects with the next sets to improve it even more.

seshiro_of_the_orochi Yes thanks alot! I would never have thought about it blowing up like this. And yea, new insects for the swarm would be awesome as there currently arent that many to choose from ^^

I think you'll get a lot from next spring set. As the kraul have taken over the golgari, there'll probably be plenty of them (Kraul Warrior, Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest).

Semblance Anvil would go well in this deck, and you could put an Adaptive Automaton under it to make Creatures and Artifacts cheaper.

Scion_of_Darkness Great card! That could work really well in this deck and the potential with Adaptive Automaton is excellent. Thanks!

JundForLife45 sorry for taking so long with the testing but my playgroup switched to mostly edh :P I found the deck to be pretty slow so I added some Cultivate to ramp faster. Might need some carddraw aswell.

Primal Bellow , Might of the Masses , you could even buff opponent’s creatures when Hornet’s Nest is brought in
