Plow Through Reito

Instant — Arcane

Sweep - Return any number of Plains you control to their owner's hand. Target creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn for each Plains returned this way.

O damn, I didn't even notice, sorry. I'm cataloguing a pile of bulk and apparently some uncommons managed to sneak in. The card has a little sister: Plow Through Reito, but I don't think that buffing a single creature is worth the risk...

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Admittedly, the Splice concept was not originally my idea, but I love Arcane and decided to put my knowledge to work.

I actually did not realize that I can't target my stuff that I've given protection. Oops. Not a major problem, but still an inconvenience.

I only care about having as many tokens for as little mana and cards, not Power/Toughness or Subtype, so that's why I didn't bother with Ally specific token cards.

Yes, Plow Through Reito is there exclusively for the Arcane (you can cast it and return 0 Plains to hand, won't matter).

Overall, thank you for your input (especially with the protection from thing).

I'm also glad someone else appreciates it. I've played the deck with some people a couple times and they always act apathetic.

Oh my god, this is so COOL! I absolutely love this concept! I had to go look up the official rulings on Splice to be sure, and I have to say, this is really clever. One thing I notice that I'm sure you're aware of: you'll need to be careful of needlessly casting any of the "protection from [color]" spells, since that'll effectively prevent you from casting any more spells of that color on any of your creatures.

I see a number of creature token generation cards. Any reason in particular you chose the ones you did and not Unified Front or Allied Reinforcements? Also, I understand the instants and sorceries are the focal point, not the allies, but did you consider Ally Encampment as a last resort to protect Zada? True, it will only produce colorless if not being used to cast Tazri or Zada, but Gemstone Caverns will only produce colorless for many (I would wager "most") of your entire games.

Last question: what's the main reasoning for Plow Through Reito? Just to have something to splice onto? I don't see any Plains in the deck, so just curious.

Overall, super duper love the idea. I'm gonna look at this more later and see if I can find any other cards worth considering. May playtest it on here a few times to fully wrap my head around it.

MaStCu Hahaha, Yes! I would love to tell you how the deck plays, that discription isn't too informative :)!

Step 1: Typically, you try to get out Tallowisp asap, but if you don't think it will survive, wait until you can do both Step 1 and 2 at the same time.

Step 2: Cast a Spirit/Arcane spell, search your library for Mask of Law and Grace . Enchant Tallowisp . Sometimes Inviolability /An Umbra works fine, but only in rare circumstances.

Step 3: Cast a Spirit/Arcane spell, search your library for Shield of Duty and Reason . Enchant Tallowisp . Now that that's done, your Tallowisp has protection from everything except white. (Kill white players first because of that)

Step 4: Look around the table, find the most problematic commander. Cast a Spirit/Arcane, search you library for an answer.

Against Disciple of Deceit , Shackles can work, but sometimes Reprobation is necessary. (Use reprobation sparingly, it's your best enchantment.)

Against a Voltron commander, Asha's Favor does the trick surpisingly well. (Assuming that they have hexproof, otherwise Pacifism works fine.)

Against Aggresive decks, Lifelink + Asha's Favor / Ethereal Armor makes it very hard for them to survive.

If you have Plow Through Reito , search up Empyrial Armor for the OTK.

Step 5: You can mostly just start making the rest of your opponents boards unable to attack, while finding Ethereal Armor . Keep in mind that if you need a cath all answer, Reprobation & Choking Restraints are your best bets.

You can also tutor up cantripping auras to make your spirits draw you a card, and give protection to your opponents creatures to make other auras fall off.

Hope this helps!

As much as I love the realmwright/emeria interaction, I'd love to see something a little more substantial to go with realmwright- Plow Through Reito isn't it, and Valor isn't gamechanging.

If you're looking at swamp synergy though, Korlash, Heir to Blackblade,Mind Sludge and similar 'swamps matter' spells are generally strong, and Vedalken Shackles is interesting sideboard tech.

I'd want to pump them after they've been blocked- Barkshell Blessing or Defiant Strike, Plow Through Reito or Steeling Stance, Wojek Siren or Vampire's Bite.
