Ophidian

Creature — Snake

Whenever Ophidian attacks and isn’t blocked, you may draw a card. If you do, Ophidian assigns no combat damage this turn.

People keep forgetting that Ophidian was for quiet some time the best (blue) creature in the game. Also the warrior makes a pretty good dark Confidant impression...

Gotta love that description. How bout Ophidian or Thieving Magpie?

Thanks for the input!

I am indeed working with a budget. trying to keep it close to $100

When I put this deck together originally, I had Akroma, Angel of Fury, but it burns all of the red I have and it's really just 6 unblockable (give it protection from color) and that, by itself, is not good in my meta.

Since I already play morphs for free with Animar, and their effects are flip costs, not enter costs, so I don't need Dermoplasm

Thousand Winds is a cool card, but my meta likes to ramp until someone can one-shot, so people just don't swing, and I have been considering Dwarven Blastminer for a while.

Ooo I like Qarsi Deceiver, and I took out Jeering Instigator for the same reason I took out Thousand Winds. If I swing early, people get angry and I die.

Proteus Machine is a cool card to bluff with, but as this is a morph deck, pretty much everything is a bluff already lol

Honestly, I just put in Myr Superion because I loved the work-around with Animar, but I do want a large colorless creature. Darksteel Colossus Is cheaper and less scary. Won't paint a huge target on my back.

I'm still unclear on what Rogue's Passage will do, besides let an infinite Animar through, which I already do with changing the protection color anyway...

You're right about Ophidian. I've been adding better card draw recently.

Thank you so much for the input! This deck is my pride and joy, and it's so much fun to play.

Hey, thanks for the comment!

Cool idea for an Animar deck. Are you working within any budget constraints or anything? I'm surprised not to see Akroma, Angel of Fury. The is rough but not too bad in Animar's colors.

Some suggestions:Dermoplasm lets you put in morph creatures on the cheap, Master of the Veil lets you flip them back down again.

Thousand Winds is pretty much a win con if someone's tapped out. Dwarven Blastminer might be a sideboard card, but being able to pop annoying lands like Rogue's Passage, Maze of Ith or Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and the like on the cheap is amazing.

Icefeather Aven can bounce opponents or your own for another morph cast, Qarsi Deceiver is a neat mana rock for the theme, I'm surprised you took out Jeering Instigator.

Proteus Machine can be a good bluff or just a free creature.

I'd definitely take out Myr Superion and replace it with something with more utility or just a big artifact creature with text on the card like Darksteel Colossus or Blightsteel Colossus instead.

Rogue's Passage will help a lot in getting those morphed creatures in when they figure out what you're doing.

The only problem I really see with your deck is a lack of longevity and some lack of cohesion. You're like 75% in on morph, but you've also got some extraneous cards you don't really need to be using, like Ophidian(You're in blue-you'll get better payoff just using a draw spell or something that taps to draw)

I have a problem with inconsistent mill in that you don't have any control or way of knowing how you're impacting their gameplan. If you're milling a couple of cards here and there it feels like those slots would be better used on cards that will help you win, not just possibly hurt an opponent. Mill itself is fine, but I don't think you're dedicating enough to it to make it worthwhile.

The obvious thing to add would be more snakes since you're running so many cards that encourage attacking with them. Of the ones you're not playing you could add Honored Hydra, Lorescale Coatl, Ophidian, or Ohran Viper. The last two give you CA, and the first two are good big beaters with Hydra having the token as well. With the two I mentioned last post that a nice selection of potential additions.

Outside of snakes, Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip is a very fine card to dig for creatures. Reclamation Sage is solid removal that can attack or block.

The_Raven: Ophidian.dec seems more reasonable now. I guess I just need more Ophidian's

I won't go super voltron because I feel like that isn't super original. Especially with this weird guy, but i'll definitely play the main ones

Neat name effect by the way.

What makes an Unplayable commander?

I'm using EDHREC'S list of Unplayable commander's. They are commander's that have less then three decks on tapped out, you can find the list here.

How does this work?

I'll randomly select a commander. I'll build the rough skeleton. You send me suggestions for weird cards for it. And we'll cut it down and ship it. Let's put the minds of the internet to the test

Why would you build around (Insert bad commander) when you could play (Insert better commander in the same archetype or colors) instead, what's the point?

First off the object should not be to just build good stuff with X. If we're building Rohgahh of Kher Keep we aren't building R/B good stuff. We're building around Rohgahh of Kher Keep. Weird drawbacks and neat side effects and all.

Because if you limit yourself to just the best deck of their colors, you limit yourself to 30 decks in the entirety of the format (Mono color, guilds, shards ect), But the great thing about commander is that there are hundreds of ways to build around one commander. I can build Zedruu the Greathearted as a prison deck, a evil santa deck, a group hug deck, Heck I could build voltron Zedruu, Sky's the limit.

So instead of simply looking at the cards and seeing what they aren't, let's look and see what they bring to the table. No matter how bad it looks. No matter how weird it is.

Plus it'll be a lot of fun.

TLDR; What's the deck already

For the glory of whatever this guy fought in...

Yuan Shao, the Indecisive

Well this is guy is, kinda boring actually.

But that doesn't mean his deck has to be boring. Maybe Ophidian effects.dec?
