Hey all, I am very new to magic, I haven't even been into it for a week but I'm already hooked. I've been doing extensive research on the game by looking on forums and watching videos. I'm trying to learn all I can. So thus is the 3.0 version of my Black/white deck and I wanted to get some input on it. I'm very new so I'm still getting used to it.

So I don't know exactly what I'd call this deck but I'd say Protection/Life gain/ Remove deck.I felt like all the cards worked well together for example the aegis angles can make things indestructible and then I can have walls that are like a buffer then I have a few mana/life gain cards and then I have a few cards that make target player remove a card when mine dies and then I have the elixir of immortality where I can put all my graveyard cards in my library and gain 5 lives. I'm sorry if I'm such a noob. I just want some help and I want to get a good feel for the game and how I want to play before going to fnm.Thank you.

Your deck is trying to do many non-specific things. It has little synergy, and low power. If you want to play a lifegain deck, there's always Soul Sisters, which can be built at a cheap price if you're willing to play a worse version of the deck.

Hey, you should add a deck so it's easier for people to see. On the very top black bar, there's a tab called "Deck Builder" -> "add deck" -> scroll down and add cards like:

10x plains

10x swamp

4x scoured barren

I'm not a very competitive player, but I'd be happy to see this deck improve and see where it goes.

Some of the main mistakes new players make:

"Lifegain is awesome" Lifegain is not as good as you think. While having a lot of life is a good thing, if your opponent is winning, all extra life does is delay it.

"Lifeloss is terrible" Just like mana and cards, life is a resource to be exploited. Every point of life except for the last is expendable.

"If anything I have dies, it is bad" In reality, almost everything is expendable. Count on your opponent trying to kill everything you play. Creatures that do something when they die, or are hard to kill, are good.

"Big stuff with big effects are great" While large, splashy cards can be good, the really good ones are the ones that quickly generate advantage at low costs.

if you want some deck building help, ill be glad to help. Just ask.

Life is definitely a resource. You "spend" life to buy time against your opponent (i.e. I'll take two damage this turn instead of blocking so that I can make my guy bigger next turn). TheNextRedDude hit the nail on the head in his post.

That being said, I'd suggest looking into a deck called "Soul Sisters." Here are some links to give you some ideas on what kind of deck you could build:

Soul Sisters on MtG Top 8
Soul Sisters on MtG Goldfish

The basic premise is to use life gain to trigger effects on a plethora of creatures. Cards like Ajani's Pridemate, Archangel of Thune, and Serra Ascendant get huge very quickly. If you splash black, you get Lingering Souls and Vault of the Archangel, which are both quite good in Modern.

The other deck I think you should consider is B/W Tokens. It's an Orzhov deck similar to Soul Sisters, but focuses less on life gain and more on disruption and making a huge army.

Eric Froelich is one of the best players in the world and recently played B/W Tokens at the World Championship. You can find his deck here.

This version is the most recent top-placing deck played at a major event.

Be sure to post your deck in the deck builder and give us a link! It makes it easier for us to comment and help you out.
