What to do with new Trostani?

So I've been excitedly waiting for new Trostani this spoiler season, and after seeing Izoni and Niv-Mizzet, Parun, I really got my hopes up.

But then it turns out Trostani is now just a Regal Caracal, minus cat tribal synergies.

But the art is still amazing, and I want to see if anyone more creative than me has an idea on how to abuse them. Right now it seems like they're going to almost always be weaker than Tolsimir Wolfblood, so maybe the best place is in his 99?

Link for anyone who hasn't seen Trostani yet

Trostani with Reveillark+Karmic Guide+sac outlet equals infinite tokens...that's something, right?

As far as the bottom line of text: I have no opinions on it. It is very narrow in those colors. I don't even think there is a way, off the top of my head, to manipulate and abuse it. It seems like it simply might just be one of those static abilities that becomes relevant 15 times out of a 100.

So, when played after Trostani, Selesnya's Voice they gain you 8 life, and every token that enters after is bigger.

Infinite life is a thing in UpperDeckerTacos situation, and whatever your sac outlet is doing could be beneficial.

The gain your permanents back thing is primarily for those Aikido style EDH decks that don’t want you to do what you’re doing. IMO at least. It’s much harder to play Trostani, Selesnya's Voice without your commander...

It just seems like one of those dollar bin cards that won’t be relevant to most people most of the time. I don’t feel like I’d even be excited for it in Limited, other than as a Glorious Anthem. The art is nice though.

UpperDeckerTaco I mean, I guess the last ability is relavent with Dubious Challenge.

The other thought I had was Hunted Troll type cards, but unfortunately the owner of a token is whos control it was created under, not who created it.

So I guess I just throw it in the 99 of old Trostani or Tolsimir

New Trostani with Ashnod's Altar and Nim Deathmantle is infinite tokens. There are cards to give them haste or whatever but then you’re looking at a bad 3 card combo without black or blue tutors for the pieces...

But yeah, as a selesnya guy I’m with you on this one. Beautiful card, just not built well for EDH :/

Trostani Discordant + Temur Sabertooth + Earthcraft + Ashnod's Altar = infinite tokens and infinite colorless mana. Add in Phyrexian Altar and you get colored mana too. Kind of a lot of parts but it's there!

Hmm... Another good option in a long list of answers in Captain Sisay

I was pretty disappointed in the new Trostani tbh but you are right that the art is phenomenal. Definitely getting a foil playset for my collection.

In regards to what kind of deck she'd best be the commander of I would say go infinite with tokens/mana as stated above via Ashnod's Altar + Earthcraft + Temur Sabertooth , Midnight Guard + Presence of Gond , and the like. As far as "win-cons" go if you go the infinite combo route I'd recommend Altar of the Brood to deck out the table and maybe add Concordant Crossroads to make your tokens capable of ending game on the spot. Thats all I have off the top of my head atm but when I get home I'll brainstorm it more

I mean new Trostani, lore-wise, in on point -- Growing paranoia and distrust in the other guilds, a growing sense of isolationism and xenophobia in the conclave. 10/10 in that aspect.

It reflects that, but that translates poorly to the card quite obviously in terms of playability. I can't think of many charity cards that you can really take advantage of in G/W and unless your meta has a really dedicated Zedru/Yasova/Theft player it's just... Meh.

Emmara is the more solid option out of the two new guild leaders, at least with her you can build around self-tapping and getting loads of tokens.
