Overlooked card for potential card draw.

While looking for enchantments and stuff for a build I’ve been working on for Queen Marchesa I stumbled across this card.

Pursuit of Knowledge

From what I’m getting about the card is that you don’t necessarily have to skip your draw step draw and get to choose when you want to skip drawing a card. This could be done with the Monarch trigger for example or other draw triggers like ones from Phyrexian Arena or draw spells like Brainstorm which would fill the counters right away despite you needing to put 2 cards on top of the deck afterwards before then drawing 7 cards.

Then you can also get into proliferate triggers as a way to build these up fast for decks that do run themes like that.

Lastly I do like that as long as it has the 3 counters on it you can sac it at any moment to net you those 7 cards so holding onto it may be a good idea to leave it up for whenever you think may be best to draw a new hand.

I mean, it seems ok-ish in a really removal light meta maybe? The biggest problem I can see with this card though is that most of the time it will read "skip two draws, gain 4 life" as it eats an opponent's Nature's Claim .

Additionally if the third counter goes on during someone else's turn or you do decide to sit on it, Krosan Grip would make it simply "skip three draws". There are other removal that could hit it at 2 if your meta doesn't run specifically artifact and enchantment removal. Mortify , Putrefy , Anguished Unmaking , Pernicious Deed could all get rid of it. You might even just be collateral damage on an overloaded Cyclonic Rift .

Oops I thought Putrefy hit enchantments. Disregard that one.

I'm not a huge fan of this card. Mixing it with a brainstorm effect seems smart and might be the only way to play it. I dont like it as much as some other odd card draw effects. Such as Farsight Mask witch adds a political aspect and deters others from doing damage to you.

I agree with the others about this being risky if you're skipping 3 draws. But if you put it in a proliferate deck you could just skip one draw and go nuts.

I have an Atraxa, Praetors' Voice deck that focuses on artifacts and proliferating, I might give it a try in there.

In a deck that doesn't have access to Blue or Green I think it would be serviceable or even good. In a mono White or Red/White deck I can see this as one of there best draw cards.
