Some Possible Edits on Xenagos But Not Sure

Commander Deck Help forum

Hey guys. I had posted my deck Xenagos Hydra Ascension deck a couple weeks ago on the advertise your commander deck page. I added a lot of the cards that were suggested and they're helping a lot. I'm having a few problems though, namely I'm getting mana flooded and my fatties are a bit vulnerable. The good news is that Xenagod gives my fat hydras haste giving them an immediate effect on the board in most games. I can make Kalonian Hydra come in as a 12/12 with trample the turn he enters. I'm looking at Asceticism to fix the vulnerability problem, it's a little expensive but I have some cards to sell. I'm thinking of adding Chandra's Ignition to get some synergy with Xenagod and Malignus as well.

My main thought is that while playing I've found that my most successful games are the ones in which I play a late game lure card and send my entire board state out. I'm considering throwing in some cards like Taunting Elf and Golgari Decoy. I don't know where to throw them in though. But I have no idea how to fix my mana flooding problem. It may simply be bad shuffling but I've dropped my land count to 38 and I'm still having problems.

Have a mana sink like Helix Pinnacle or Chameleon Colossus

You have a lot of good creatures on your list, you just need some support I think in the lands and sadly, there is no way round ityoure going to need to upgrade them a little bit. Thankfully the R/G lands are fairly budget friendly. Cinder Glade and Karplusan Forest will go a long way to fixing your mana as will Rootbound Crag. Those are the most budget friendly ones. You can always get the shock and the fetch later if they are not in the budget right now.

I would cut Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury for Garruk Wildspeaker or Garruk, Caller of Beasts. They will serve your deck way better than Freyalise. Also, Id cut Creeping Corrosion for Vandalblast as it is more one-sided.

Also, if you can, add in a Worldly Tutor. Googling for Hydra Omnivore is always fun.
