Hello everyone, currently I have been having some difficulty in building both Queen Marchesa and Sen Triplets. I decided to stick to Mardu for now.

I just can't decided on a viable way to play her. First, I thought about using the curses theme with her, but it did not sit well for EDH. Then i decided to go enchantments, but ended up lacking wincons.

Now I am torn between Enchantment/Voting Mechanincs (Will of the council and alike) and tokens.

I would love to have some guidance on how to best play her in the most deadly way, either Control or Politics.

I'd go rattlesnake. Lots of deathtouch creatures and other things that make people think twice about attacking you (like No Mercy). Then put the squeeze on your opponents using taxing cards like Suture Priest and Blind Obedience to slowly whittle them down until its too late. You'll need to play politics to keep from being a main target.

I think she's actually a pretty viable voltron commander. She already has deathtouch and haste just imagine her with Ethereal Armor and something that grants her either flying or trample!

swinging out with her will leave you open and someone will probably take the monarchy from you but really that just means that you get the assassin on your upkeep AND the card from monarchy as long as you take it back from them before the end of your turn.

so yea I think voltron or lots of anthems for your tokens maybe some life gain so you can take the hits when monarchy is getting exchanged back and forth.

on the other hand people like to pillowfort with her because they don't want to give the monarchy to anyone else and that seems viable too.

She's great with a stax list. Get the monarch thing going, control the board, deny resources to your opponents, win via attrition, and collect the salt. I'm sure you can find at least one good list here.

Depends on your playgroup, how do they play/what?

I went with a flicker theme in Blink Monarch and it's a blast. Seems like every list I see goes pillowfort and through a bunch of hoops just to protect monarch, literally draw one card at end of turn. Instead you can build her a ton of ways and I think like cuelix kind of said, if you want to make the most out of her you should be ok with losing monarch, getting your token and getting it back again for the card at end of turn. The tokens are pretty sweet really and monarch is a really fun mechanic when it makes the table interact with one another.

My list is pillowfort, but finds its wincons in amassing tokens using things like Assemble the Legion and Anointed Procession and then beating face with buffs from Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite or Cathars' Crusade.

There are also options like stacking keyword abilities with Archetype of Aggression, Archetype of Courage, Ankle Shanker, etc. and have Odric, Lunarch Marshal lead the charge.

Heartless Hidetsugu with double damage/lifelink/etc. also helps to hit the table hard while you sit in a healthy position which also allows your weenies to finish off your opponents.

dlamars I completely overlooked the fact that you could just flicker her to get monarch back, and I agree about the pillowfort thing it works okay and I think most people enjoy it for their own personal reasons, but like you said to get the most out of her I think you should be playing in such a way that you might lose monarch get your token and then get it back for your card.

I think people just really wanting to play mardu pillowfort or something!?!

P.S. how does Conjurer's Closet work with monarch? it triggers at the beginning of your end step you flicker marchesa and become the monarch and then has the monarch's chance to trigger already passed because 'the beginning of the end step' already happened or does it still get to trigger?

Im pretty sure that unfortunately as soon as the end step begins the triggers are put on the stack, so you miss out on the card in that instance.

Ah, yea that makes sense. Oh well plenty of other ways to flicker her before end step!

Man, she is so difficult to build. I think I shall go the rattlesnake/tokens/enchantments route

Queen Marchesa is absolutely brutal in an equipment/hatebear build. There is a saying "the best offense is the best defense". If you can threaten a huge amount of damage in retaliation, nobody's gonna wanna hit you. Mine has a pretty good win rate. Check out my primer for more in-depth description.
