Commander Deck Help forum

I wanted to build a suicide black deck, but I wanted to have a backup plan, so i had to go multi-color. I chose yidris because I wanted to play Gitaxian Probe, Goblin Guide, Death's Shadow, and Kessig Prowler  Flip in the same deck. NO POSTING DECKLISTS: I want opinions and thoughts, I don't want to netdeck. just tell me what you think.

I'm not sure if Commander is the best format to play a super-aggressive deck. All of the cards you mentioned are legal in Modern, which is a much better format for suicide decks.

Just go with a Grixis legend like the famed Nicol Bolas,

Or go aggressive with Rakdos, Lord of Riots,

Also, not many of the cards you mentioned are very good in EDH. Also, using less colors, the more consistent your strategy will be.

Commander is not exactly a format in which you are looking to get rid of your 40 life as fast as possible. I think you could build aggro or something that hits your opponents symmetrically (I.e. Heartless Hidetsugu), but the style of play you are striving for is just going to leave you at a low life total with not enough resources to close out the game.

If your still set on doing this, here's my thoughts...You could use things Tree of Redemption, Moltensteel Dragon, or Shaman of Forgotten Ways to make Death's Shadow more viable and your life total lower. Your best bet at consistency for this style of play would probably be a Birthing Pod-centered deck. As for a late game plan maybe include a few big creatures along with a combo that uses Aluren.

Gotta agree with Pieguy396 here, both Goblin Guide and Death's Shadow are kind of inherently worse in EDH compared to Modern, or even Legacy. 40 starting life makes a big difference, as does having far more than one opponent to deal with.

That's not to say you can't win via combat, but it's going to take bigger creatures than a 2/2 haste for R. Much bigger.

Sorry for not clarifying, I'm making this a duel commander deck.

Alesha, Who Smiles at Death. Look up her combo builds and adjust to the Duel Commander banlist.

Does putting in splinter twin combo seem like a good idea if aggro doesn't work in the early game?

Repay in Kind is a good payoff card for playing suicide black. Just draw card at the expense of life then drop this followed by Gray Merchant of Asphodel and win out of nowhere.
