Best Human Tribal Deck?

Commander Deck Help forum

I'm considering building a new Tribal EDH deck and I want to use Humans. I prefer playing aggressively and winning through combat damage. I have considered Saskia the Unyielding and Sigarda, Heron's Grace for my Human tribal deck.

Have you ever built an aggressive Human tribal deck?

Which ones are your favorite? I would love to see your lists!

Also, suggestions for deck flavor or hilarious combo victories in the comments are also accepted and highly encouraged.

Human is a very huge and vague tribe, easily the most common and existing in all colors; I think you'll want to identify some key cards you want to use first.

Humans as representatives of the tribe are generally smaller than the representatives of most other tribes except maybe goblins and elves; most humans aren't bigger than 4/4, though there's a lot of humans like Thalia's Lieutenant that have built-in growth abilities, and tons with weird other abilities. There also aren't a lot of Commander-worthy cards that make human tokens, and most of those have some limitations so you're more likely to have a lower number of higher powered creatures. The deck would probably want to find humans that cooperate well together?

These two potential commanders suggest somewhat different philosophies to me. Sigarda, Heron's Grace is a slower, more defensive commander, who is probably supporting your main strategy rather than being a key part of it; I'd prefer her if the idea was to build a "tall" aggro deck (despite her token ability) with a number of powerful creatures, like Kamahl, Fist of Krosa, Serra Ascendant, and Odric, Master Tactician. Her token generation is slowish to generate tokens (and limited by your ability to put things into your graveyard) so I wouldn't count on it to generate huge numbers; it also doesn't have a huge amount of synergy with her hexproof-granting ability. The hexproof ability wants creatures worth protecting but the tokens are more likely threatened by Wrath of God than Murder.

Saskia the Unyielding on the other hand is probably going to lead from the front. If you use Saskia, she'll probably be attacking early and often (Siggy is good at attacking as she flies and is huge, but this is probably secondary for her). She has white and red, which contains a lot of aggressive boros humans like Tajic, Blade of the Legion and Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder.

Anyway that's my read of it. I personally would prefer Saskia but it depends I think on what appeals to you about playing human tribal.

Have you considered Ravos, Soultender + Tymna the Weaver ? They both seem like they belong in an aggressive build. Also in my opinion white has some of the best human tribal cards and when paired with black you get to add in draw and great spot removal. I played Orzhov human cleric tribal for a bit and found it can be a pretty aggressive build. It wasn't great in multiplayer, but 1v1 it was difficult to lose.

If you prefer winning through combat damage, Saskia the Unyielding is definitely for you. A little something that you could include are cards like Odric, Master Tactician, Seismic Stomp, Magmatic Chasm, or even, despite not being Humans, Brutal Hordechief and Iroas, God of Victory for all of those glorious anti-block effects that let Saskia deal the most damage that she can with other Humans. I'm having a brain fart right now, but any cards that give your creatures/ humans flying, menace, and trample are always great for more combat damage. Another suggestion that I would give are creatures that benefit greatly from dealing combat damage to get even more value out of the former cards that I listed, like Grim Flayer. I hope you have fun brewing. I've actually been putting together a prototype Saskia deck that you could check out: Saskia Tribal EDH

This is an older deck that badly needs to be updated. However Child of Alara makes for a solid human tribal commander. Its interaction with Birthing Pod, Sharuum the Hegemon and Angel of Glory's Rise is both hilarious and powerful.
