Hi there! So I'm a magic newbie, bought a bunch of bulk cards off ebay, and right away I noticed amongst my rares the cards "arcane melee", "wild ricochet" and "echo mage".
I immediately thought that it would be fun to make a kitchen table casual combo deck for playing with friends. I tested it out last night and won with it, and now I'm wondering what might be good cards to swap out.
I'd like to keep the budget to sub $100 going forward from here. Main things I'm thinking should be changed are the martyrs of frost since you have to reveal your hand to use their ability, so any suggestions for other cheap counterspells would be good. Also wanting to swap out the firebolts for lightning bolts. One other thing I'm thinking of changing is the vision skeins for another draw card, since it gives my opponent draw as well.
Basic game plan is to use the burn, counterspells and bounce to keep the board clear, block with the auger of bolas and use him for draw. Mid game, get one or both arcane melee and echo mage set up, draw into fireball, then use the echo mage or wild ricochet to copy a cheap, high damage fireball ~3-4 times and hit the other guy in the face.
Obviously a lot of the cards I'm running are sub-optimal, but they're all I have at the moment so I will continue using them for the time being. I also don't want to make it too powerful or consistent otherwise my friends will have a shitty time playing against it which I don't want either!
