Playtest —Aug. 17, 2016

My friends and I had a 3 round swiss tournament and this was a perfect chance to play test against a small cross section of decks. Here are my findings...

First opponent was a Tasigur delver deck. This slowed me down, but I was generally faster. Not an issue. I can see blue counters screwing me up and when I empty my hand I wont have much to do. Victory.

Second opponent was a mono white aggro-ish type deck. He was mana screwed the first game then mana flooded the second. Not a good test. Victory.

Third opponent ran a white life gain deck that also created flying tokens. I won the first match. I lost the second match because his life gain was too much to keep up with. The final match went to me after sideboarding in some Disenchants. This was the longest and hardest opponent of the night. If this was a sanctioned game it would have gone past the time limit. Victory.

Undefeated for the night.

I'd say drop the Vexing Devils to fill your playset of Goblin Bushwhacker. I know the appeal of the devil, believe me, but thousands of folks before me have tested him extensively in the hopes of finding a way to make him better than average (they haven't). Bushwhacker will swing whole games, the devil will either eat a bolt or be one- whichever is less helpful.

To be honest, my plan is to remove Vexing Devil and Goblin Bushwhacker completely and add 4x Tarmagoyf.

Or maybe -4 Kird Ape -2 Vexing Devil +4 Tarmagoyf +2 Goblin Bushwhacker I haven't decided. Playtest needed.

I basically play a cheap version of your list (Goblin Guide --> Experiment One, Tarmogoyf --> Flinthoof Boar) and I recently sideboarded Path to Exile in order to maindeck Lightning Helix. The added reach has been great. That would be my only suggestion.

Mutagenic Growth is a good free spell to enable bushwhacker that also forces damage. On that point, people have been debating whether or not to include Simian Spirit Guide in this deck, as this deck seeks to deploy its hand as soon as possible. Even though it doesn't directly force damage, by piling extra 1 drops or enabling mana for a Lightning Bolt while deploying maxium threats can prevent dorky creature decks from getting ahead. I've like 3 in my build so far, I dropped Kird Ape for them because he was the weakest 1 drop.

I'd definitely add Lightning Helix. When I played in my first Grand Prix, I really underestimated what the little bit of extra life could have done for me, so I ended up doing poorly.

If you go Leylines, go 4 or leave them out.
Wear / Tear > Dissenchant.
I don't know what role Nissa is supposed to fill?
Get some Lifegain, like Lightning Helix or Scooze.
I also like a one-off Devastating Summons.
Also how does Experiment One perform in relation to Loam Lion?

I'm gathering that Lightning Helix is a must. I'll main board it and side board Path. I can see why Wear/Tear is a better choice over Disenchant.

Experiment One performs great, especially if you get him out early. I have never playtested Loam Lion, but it's a max of 2/3 and Experiment One typically goes above that if not removed early.

I like the idea of Rancor and/or Mutagenic Growth and/or Devastation Summons, but Ghor-clan Rampager serves a similar purpose and has a body attached if I need it.

I might actually minus 4 Kird Ape and plus 4 Simian Spirit Guide. That's not a bad idea.

What's everyone's opinion on Selfless Spirit to avoid boardwipes?

I like Selfless Spirit in the side. I would move Ghost Quarter to main and take out 1 Deflecting Palm for 2 of those.
