Basically, I saw the potential for Axebane Guardian to generate loads and loads of mana, and wanted to make a deck utilizing him to cast spells with X in their cost. At first this was a Gruul build, throwing fireballs and bonfires - but I realized that with Mind Grind, each mana goes even further.
Explanation of cards:
Fog Bank: Cheap defender with flying that doesn't die to combat damage. Easy pick.
Doorkeeper: Lets me use my defender count towards milling, in case I don't have a mind grind or increasing confusion in hand.
Overgrown Battlement: Like Axebane Guardian, but a little less good, but able to be played on turn two.
Gatecreeper Vine: Defender count, and helps with mana fixing if I'm not drawing all the lands I need.
Axebane Guardian: Makes all the mana!
Clone: Lets me run four more Axebane Guardians.
Jace, Memory Adept: Can draw cards if needed, but I will usually just mill ten with him every turn.
Increasing Confusion: I will often play this turn one for X=0 just to get it into the graveyard - then I'll build up my mana base and cast it again later to really get some work done.
Mind Grind: In a deck that can easily make 20 or so mana on turn 5 or 6, this is a no-brainer. Easy, easy win-con.
Sands of Delirium: A place to dump my extra mana each turn if I'm not holding a good mill spell.
Keening Stone: Nobody ever expects this one! I'll usually keep this in my hand until I can play it and activate it in the same turn for the win.
Putrefy: It's good to have some removal around, I suppose.
Right now, this deck has no sideboard - but I'd really like it to have one! Please help me out in that regard. Also, if you have any ideas how to make this deck work any better, by all means, lay it on me!
