Changed a lot of the card choices after extensive testing and cross referencing against successful decks so far this standard. Description is out of date. Coming soon!

Be selective with your counterspells you wont need that many I would suggest taking out syncopate and anticipate Thought erasure takes the ability of divest and duress and turns it into one with surveil so maybe not divess and duress even thought they are cheaper it would make it more of a chance that you don't divest them when they have a settle the reckage just use thought erasure

Thank you SquadFam, About counterspells, I think i'll keep Syncopate but probably end up running only one or two. What I find good about it is that if its in your opening hand its a guaranteed opponent's turn 2 counter. I'll take out Anticipate and I'm not decided on Duress/Divest vs. Thought Erasure only because they are the perfect one drop for control decks. Thoughts on Settle the Wreckage?

Should I cut Divest because I have many other ways to deal with creatures?

Settle the Wreckage is a solid card but it sometimes may be difficult holding up white mana in a deck like this because you would want to be spending it on the life and draw

Alright I'll maybe board both! Last question, Seal Away versus other 2 mana removal.

Helloha! My biggest piece of advice would be to get a less janky curve since curve really matters. This means play 4 sinister sabotage, 3 teferi if you can spend the money. You should try to play one other 3 drop but I’m not sure what one would be correct. Perhaps Profane Procession  Flip? I think this would be a good choice because of it’s synergy with settle the wreckage (one punishes the opponent for not killing you quick which goads people into big attacks where you can just settle).

I would shave down

Thaumatic Compass  Flip because it’s too slow

Sanguine Sacrament because it is too situational for mainboard.

-2 Lich's Mastery because it doesn’t help you stabilize.

-2 etrata. I’m just not sold on this card.

Go up to 26 lands

+1 Settle the Wreckage

+1 Cleansing Nova

+2 Syncopate

+2 Profane Procession  Flip

+2 teferi

+1 Sinister Sabotage

As janky as it sounds I would use Explosion as a wincon. It is an X spell and you can pay UU for it for early utility and once Azor flips you have access to red mana.

I know that’s not balanced of what to put in and out but I’m out of time and need to go to class. Good luck!

I like Unexplained Disappearance for one or two Sinister Sabotage in this.

Thanks for the +1 Chasmolinker, What cards in specific do you feel Unexplained Disappearance will deal with compared to other cards in the deck.

Legendary_penguin_of_death, Wow that was a lot more than I bargained for HAHA. Two points I would like to make before addressing your comments are 1.Sadly I don't have the money for Teferis, I have one in the deck only because I own one. Also I'm not trying to gofor a competitve esper control build. If I were trying to go competitive I would run Grixis control because of more stable mana base etc. Therefore combo pieces in this deck are important to me. I don't think I want to remove the Lich's Masterys, and I'm not a fan of profane procession tbh. I definitely will go up to 4 Sinister Sabotages and 4 Settle the Wreckage, I messed around with explosion for a while, and I'm not sure how necessary it is. I also feel Cleansing Nova is a good card because of the options, and considering ill never use the artifact removal optio I fel=el it isn't the smartest choice. I'll have to keep playtesting to decide about the other cards. Thanks again!

I thought of something that could be a bit better than profane procession, Disinformation Campaign. Yeah expansion explosion was just a fun idea. It has high utility against control decks in counter wars but is a very janky option.

also what do you think about Eldest Reborn as a solid curve filler.

Oooooh... I'll maybeboard both until i do more testing but they both have potential.

Unexplained Disappearance just seems like a tempo play if you don't have mana up for Sinister Sabotage and a big fatty hits the board.

Hmmmm, normally I haven't been the best tempo player. I can't test the deck irl until I order it, but definitely ill consider it, maybe against like aurelia ig, idk ill have to evaluate the meta
