I've come a long way as a brewer. I'm nowhere near tier 1 worthy, but admittedly I used to make some pretty bad decks. Now I've gotten the hang of it to some amount, but at some point I realized that I must at least attempt to take on the ultimate brewer's challenge. Whether I've done it right, only time will tell, but for now, here is my first attempt at building around One with Nothing.

The big thing that makes this card suck is that it's paying into something that, not only does it not benefit you, but it strictly hurts you. The only foreseeable way to make this good is by creating two kinds of payoff, immediate and endgame. The immediate payoff cards that come to mind are those with madness. Two of the most efficient reductions are Call to the Netherworld, an obviously powerful free cast with the downside of having no effect on the first One with Nothing, and a very overlooked Dark Withering, which, as a 6 drop sucks, but with enough ways to discard your own cards, beats Fatal Push as a 1-drop black removal spell. Long-term payoffs start with rebuilding card advantage based on being empty handed, coming from Blood Scrivener and Asylum Visitor, another madness card that is not as efficient, but works with Scrivener to draw two as a static replacement on an empty handed upkeep, allowing the possibility for instant speed spells to be thrown out so that two additional cards can be drawn at the draw step as well. As for long term payoff, the incredibly powerful and easy to trigger reanimation of Bloodghast and Prized Amalgam is a must, as well as Gravecrawler, being that Blood Scrivener is also a zombie. Additionally, flashback is a useful mechanic post-discard, with the classic Faithless Looting. But like with flashback on Looting, we're going to want a lot more discard outlets, to where Lightning Axe and Collective Brutality make great removal spells. But nothing quite tops One with Nothing now that it appears to suck less, and that's why it's great to play Avaricious Dragon, a bulk mythic from Origins that acts as some card advantage with One with Nothing on an end step stick. This deck could be more reasonably priced if B/R manabases weren't expensive for modern, but at this point, you'd already have to be an absolute mad lad to want to play B/R One with Nothing.
