Advanced Treasure Hunt 2.0

Modern

Retrotonic

Sideboard

This is an advanced Treasure Hunt combo deck. The deck is comprised of mostly land cards and focuses on only two spells: Treasure Hunt and the wincon (Lightning Storm or Zombie Infestation).

You MUST have at least one Treasure Hunt in your opening hand. This means you MUST mulligan until you have one - even if you mulligan down to one.

The perfect opening hand has a Gemstone Caverns (with a land to pitch), Treasure Hunt, a wincon, and a Reliquary Tower. This will rarely happen, but if you have a Treasure Hunt - always keep!

If you can help it, don't play Treasure Hunt if you have already played a land and don't have a Reliquary Tower out. When you play the Treasure Hunt, you will draw a ton of cards because the deck has 55 land cards. Ideally, you want more than 12 cards in your hand, plus a Tower. Now, play the Reliquary Tower (if one is not out). This is also important if you have sideboarded in Zombie Infestation so you can hold off from creating zombies until your opponent's next end step. This prevents your opponent from using sorcery speed mass removal spells (Languish, Damnation, Wrath of God, etc.). Then swing in for lethal on your turn.

If you ran Hunt without a wincon in hand and you didn't draw one, this means you drew another Hunt. You'll have to go hunting again until you have a wincon.

Supporting cards:

Reliquary Tower: You do not want to discard any cards you have drawn with Hunt.

Boseiju, Who Shelters All: This prevents control decks from ruining your combo. If a Treasure Hunt or Lightning Storm gets countered - the game is pretty much over.

Gemstone Caverns: Makes turn two kills possible. 'Nuff said.

City of Brass, Mana Confluence, Crumbling Necropolis, Gemstone Mine, Reflecting Pool: These help relieve some of the pressure from multiple mulligans. You'll typically have a land (or will draw a land) that can be used to cast any of your spells even if you have to mulligan down to one. Plus, these cards allow us to have a second wincon of a completely different color.

Halimar Depths: If played before a Treasure Hunt, this card can sometimes prevent a busted Treasure Hunt by finding a spell that might be close by. Bring that spell to the top and wait to Hunt until next turn. Also, this card helps you find and draw sideboarded lands, Boseiju - Who Shelters All, and Reliquary Tower.

Tolaria West: Transmute is considered an activated ability - so you are not casting a spell. This is essentially an un-counterable tutor for Boseiju, Who Shelters All, Reliquary Tower, or any sideboarded land card.

Sideboard:

Bojuka Bog: Resets Tarmogoyf, prevents graveyard shenanigans.

Ghost Quarter: Tron hate and on occasion can help fix your mana.

Zombie Infestation: This provides an unexpected second wincon that your opponent will not see coming. On your second or third match, they will have sideboarded cards to deal with your Lightning Storm, like Leyline.

Contested War Zone: This helps make your march of Zombies reach lethal (especially when you were not able to create 10 or more Zombies). But be careful, this land can come back to bite you if you play it at the wrong time.

Have fun!
