Do you like cats? Looking for a half-way decent cat themed deck to play in Pauper? No? Well, anyways, this is an all cat themed Pauper deck for cat fanatics out there that want to play something a bit different, yet full of flavor and fun! This is a 3 colored deck, so the biggest problem (esp. with an aggro decks like this one) is having to work around somewhat inconsistent mana, and Landfall in order to get our bigger beat sticks online.
The Beats: (4)
Wild Nacatl
is our supreme beat stick here, as well as (4) Steppe Lynx, which has the potential to become a 4/5 if you time the Landfall mechanic just right. (4)
Scythe Tiger
and (4)
Pouncing Jaguar
fill up our 1 drop creature slots (16 1 cmc creatures total) (4)
Oreskos Sun Guide
is a life gaining bear...er, cat, and of course (2)
Qasali Pridemage
is needed.
Removal: (4) Lightning Bolt, and (4) Journey to Nowhere, the best removal we could want.
Pumps: (4) Rancor is hard to argue with here.
Mana Fixing: (4) Abundant Growth and (3) Nylea's Presence gives us not only our mana fixing, but our cantrips as well. Nylea's Presence fuels our Wild Nacatl, making the land it enchants "every basic land type", no need for having an actual plains or mountain on the battlefield.
Lands: (4) Evolving Wilds, and (2) Terramorphic Expanse get us the variety of basic lands we need, as well as triggering the Steppe Lynx's Landfall effect. If you manage to get the Lynx out early, hold on to these lands and utilize them before combat. (8) Forest, (4) Plain, and (1) Mountain round out our mana.
Sideboard: Includes more cats! Yeah! (2)
Penumbra Bobcat
can be included to deal with opponents that use heavy removal. (3)
Nacatl Outlander
not only has pretty artwork, but can give you an edge over blue decks having protection from blue. (2 more)
Qasali Pridemage
for going up against artifact or enchantment based decks. (2) Rest for the Weary utilizes the Landfall mechanic giving us a easy 8 life! Great against Burn and aggro opponents. (1)
Pulse of Murasa
can help against grindy matches as well as aggro ones, (1)
Twin Bolt
to remove pesky chump blockers, and finally Circle of Protections in Red, Green, and Black is a must!
I would not consider this deck anywhere near a tier 1 competition deck for going into tournaments and such. It was designed strictly within the limits of building the best 'cat' themed deck one could build for the Pauper format. Therefore, if a format was based on cats and commons, I feel pretty confident that this would be the deck to have!
Thanks for reading! =.=
