Pouncing Jaguar

Creature — Cat

Echo (At the beginning of your upkeep, if this came under your control since the beginning of your last upkeep, sacrifice it unless you pay its echo cost.)

I do not like Pouncing Jaguar , the echo is just too annoying and plenty of 1 drop cats exist. Glittering Lynx , Charmed Stray , etc. Pendelhaven tends to be better than a forest for these cards as well.

Lost Leonin can result in earlier kills than any cat opening and dramatic boosts from Duelist's Heritage and Silverblade Paladin similarly speed up kills. Combined with Lost Leonin you can occasionally steal a turn 3 kill. You might find Rhonas the Indomitable

I'm also surprised at the lack of Rancor and Steelshaper's Gift . Darksteel Plate seems slow and does little and Ajani, the Greathearted doesn't look remarkable.

Life's Legacy and Hunter's Insight create a remarkable amount of advantage and Lifecrafter's Bestiary is surprisingly effective, the scry is surprisingly strong for the deck given its natural redundancy issues and the draws just build up advantage.

Krosan Vorine is nice creature removal that happens to be a cat. You seem to be avoiding creature-based spot removal, which I find surprising to the extent you aren't even running Swords to Plowshares , which I guess was an intentional meta call.

A higher-curved call like Regal Caracal seems a bit slow for cat plays, I'd prefer The Great Henge , where a 5 power cat, (original power of 2 with Arahbo boost), gets it to be a 5 drop, or even a 4 drop with 6 power from those 3 original powered cats, etc.

Nifty list. I don't have the cards or meta that you do, playing a more casual styled meta, and I play 1 v 1 30 life commander, so my list is very different, though in many cases I can see why we have different cards. But there are some things that I am curious about and I do have some suggestions. Hopefully you find some of them helpful.

Pouncing Jaguar has 2 power for a 1 drop cat, but 1 mana echo seems very annoying. Steppe Lynx may need landfall, but I imagine in the early turns this is achievable and you can save your mana for other things. Given your artifact hate I imagine players will trigger Leonin Elder often enough to give little life boosts. Glittering Lynx can also be randomly annoying for a 1 drop cat. Sure, they aren't 2 power starters, but at the start neither is Leonin Vanguard , which you run as an early game pressure card.

Do you love your life so much for your lifegain plan to use Spirit Loop ? I'm not sure I'd use a card with little other purpose. Given your buffs standards Battle Mastery seems ok, Silverblade Paladin should be a favorite, a creature to tutor for combos with cats, especially Lost Leonin , is good alongside its own 2/2 double strike frame. Grafted Wargear is nice, though I suppose with artifact removal the drawback stings, though it can't be much worse than a combat tricked creature removal on king of the pride. Still, grafted is faster than Heirloom Blade .

Hunting Cheetah may be a cat, but at that speed I would think Hunter's Insight should be a valid set-up card.

Pendelhaven is a better forest in most cases, a free 1 power boost in addition to being an untapped green source. I have enjoyed Mutavault as getting under the radar as a cat land. For ramp is burning a and to draw so good to use it over nature's lore or an artifact like Arcane Signet , even with your artifact hate out?

Skyhunter Skirmisher eats life quickly, though as a 3 drop that needs Arahbo to sink into it you might find it slow and weak to removal's tempo. Rhonas serves as such 3 drop support with a bit of added mana sink damage. As far as swarm boosts go Metallic Mimic is an early game 2 drop cat option that rewards swarming multiple cats.

This list seems kind of hybrid or conflicted. It's got some equipment to help suit up, but it's also got a pretty aggressive bunch of creatures. Seems to be able to swing either voltron or aggro. It would probably be worth it to trim down the list of 1-ofs and really streamline the strategy.

If you want some aggression, Leonin Armorguard seems right up your alley. Nice curve-topper that pumps your team on etb.

Pouncing Jaguar is really aggressive, especially if you drop it turn one. The echo cost is negligible in case you were planning on playing a tapland T2 and didn't have another onedrop. Scythe Tiger is a similar card that's an uberstronk onedrop with a substantial drawback.

Leonin Den-Guard and Sunspear Shikari are the two best equippable cats. If you want to push that archetype more, I'd fill these out to playsets.

Other cards worth considering: Penumbra Bobcat and Sacred Cat both provide resistance to Edict effects, which is super important if you plan going voltron.

Cheers!

Maybe Nettle Sentinel / Pouncing Jaguar / Plant Elemental

If you want to keep drawing cards Plant elemental is just a more expensive Rogue Elephant

The other two cards don't really do much, just a vanilla 2/2 but does not synergizes that much

Looking good! A pauper all-star I loved using was Wild Dogs - two power for one mana is still a great threat to this day. Rogue Elephant and Pouncing Jaguar are also powerhouses, but you might feel uncomfortable supporting them with your mana base.

I always liked Vine Dryad for the potential of having a 3/3 trampler on turn one with help from Rancor.

Wow, it looks really fun! I remember surprising my local shop with a Cat deck getting 3rd place. Back during Saga block (Pouncing Jaguar + Rancor). That tourney demanded 24 tribal creatures exact.

I reviewed the rules, winners, and schedules. I think an Underdog Tribe would be a good start. I always wanted to try Kavu or Elephant, but I've been out of the loop. I don't even know if it's worth it (in comparison to others).

I've looked at several of your decks on tappedout. Can see you've put thought into them. Maybe you have some suggestions? I like Monsters and Jund and Temur colors. Like Angels, too, but I'm sure that's another animal (no pun intended).
