I wanted to make a super cheap standard deck that would simply rely on removing threats of any kind no matter what and sit behind a slow buildup, and I think I've made the right deck. With a heavy -1/-1 counter theme that works all in black with Nest of Scarabs and a few decimating late game finishes, for roughly $30-40 you can have more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Nest of Scarabs is our obviously significant token engine, and our -1/-1 counter based removal to aid in its success comes from Festering Mummy, Ifnir Deadlands, Splendid Agony, and Torment of Venom. Dune Beetle and Gifted Aetherborn do well alongside our removal to keep us afloat early on. Other forms of removal, however, are undoubtedly included, and for these we have Yahenni's Expertise to boardwipe, Trial of Ambition, and Doomfall. Doomfall is the black choice uncommon from Amonkhet, and while it has nothing on Supreme Will or Abrade, just for mono black it can do a lot of work when you need it to. Baleful Ammit is a huge body that in turn makes us tokens with Nest of Scarabs, and even if it dies from our opponent casting spells before we can damage them enough, we're still making 5 1/1 insects for 3 mana, which is never a bad deal. Our win condition can either be smashing against an empty opposing board with a ton of insects, again, Throne of the God-Pharaoh is relevant here, or playing Torment of Hailfire after we've already gotten rid of our opponent's nonland permanents for them to sacrifice.
