Genasi Enforcers

Creature — Elemental Shaman

Myriad (Whenever this creature attacks, for each opponent other than defending player, you may create a token that's a copy of this creature that's tapped and attacking that player or a planeswalker they control. Exile the tokens at the end of combat.)

: Creatures you control named Genasi Enforcers get +1/+0 until end of turn.

Thanks for checking out the deck Azoth2099. I wanted to try a different route from going the Ninjutsu route, plus I have a Satoru and Yuriko decks in my meta lol.

I used to have Genasi Enforcers in the deck, but recently replaced it with Saheeli, the Sun's Brilliance. I figured the ceiling was higher. Genasi Enforcers didn't feel great or impactful beyond mid-game turns.

I think I have Elemental Mastery on the Considering list for my Moxfield version of the deck (I peeped you're also on Moxfield from your profile blurb lol).

I haven't used Blade of Selves, but have also had it recommended for my Isshin deck. The 6 total mana to cast & equip is kind of a buzz kill for me. I don't really use equipment much in my decks besides Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves, & Skullclamp.

This Commander is so awesome lol. I've been wanting to brew it myself, but I keep getting distracted.

Have you tested Genasi Enforcers, Blade of Selves or Elemental Mastery here?

No prob Profet93! I've used Seize the Spotlight before in my Anhelo, the Painter deck that eventually got recycled into this one. Seize the Spotlight definitely has that additional bit of upside, since my meta tends to skew a bit more aggro/go wide. I've used Lazotep Plating in another older deck, and liked the corner case protection of giving myself Hexproof on some occasions.

I'm waiting for the most recent Ixalan cards to hit the site, but a change that I am making to the deck is replacing Genasi Enforcers with Saheeli, the Sun's Brilliance. I've liked making token copies with her ability when I've play-tested so far.

Great suggestions by Goldbranner. Decadent Dragon will definitely be more at home with Isshin. I think it's likely popping up in EDHREC for G-G&S because of decks that have more of a Dragon support subtheme, and utilize Ninjas to a lesser extent.

I'd also recommend giving Saheeli, the Sun's Brilliance a look. I'm currently play-testing her in the slot that I had Genasi Enforcers in.

Paradoxical Outcome might also be useful as dual board protection and draw.

My build is not as focused on tokens, but I think Lagomos, Hand of Hatred is an upgrade over a couple of your other producers, his tokens are more reliable to hit than some of the 1/1 tokens. Elturel Survivors similarly is probably better than your other myriad creatures. Genasi Enforcers also is a solid turn 2 play before Goro, you're much more likely to hit with those tokens on turn 3 than with the Banshee's on turn 6. I like your Reconnaissance mission, and in my experience having multiple of those effects is worth the slots especially for your token build where you have an engine often before goro-goro is cast. You won't regret any number of Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor, Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar, Coastal Piracy, Bident of Thassa, or the new card The Indomitable. I think Decadent Dragon isn't a great fit, I noticed it on the recent edhrec suggestions for not much reason ;)

The recent Aurelia Multiverse Legends reprint is such a huge benefit to budget decks. I know your overall budget is $75, but do you have a budget per card? I have a few suggestions within budget that I think could push your deck a little more without breaking the bank:

  • I think you can probably cut Heiko Yamazaki, the General and Raiyuu, Storm's Edge you currently have 5 Warriors & 3 Samurai in deck. From playing Isshin extensively this past year, you definitely want to be attacking with more than one creature per combat haha. Solo attacking usually only happens in early game or after recovering from board wipes.

  • Since you already have Duke Ulder Ravengard and Hammers of Moradin, you could lean a bit more into Myriad. Hammers of Moradin is one of my favorite cards in my list, and usually punches above its weight. Some other Myriad creatures you could include are Genasi Enforcers and Elturel Survivors.

  • To pair with Myriad and your creature token production in general, I'd recommend getting in some ETB damage effects like Corpse Knight, Impact Tremors, and/or Witty Roastmaster. This helps get some damage in "around" defenses, and softens up opponents even further for when your creatures connect.

  • I think Delina, Wild Mage could be an eventual swap/upgrade to Flamerush Rider. Yes, you can Dash out the Rider, but the copies that Delina makes are not Legendary, which can have a higher ceiling on doubling up those triggers you typically wouldn't be able to.

  • Karlach, Fury of Avernus could be a budget-ish (less than $10) swap for Raiyuu if you want another extra combat effect. Karlach doesn't even need to attack, she just checks if you are attacking.

  • Breena, the Demagogue or Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant could be potential swaps with Glint-Sleeve Siphoner. Both are a blast, and add some fun political wrinkles to games while helping you (and opponents) draw cards. They're high risk/high reward. Breena can help grow herself or your other threats, and Karazikar can help deflect aggro away with Goad.

  • Lastly, I'd recommend Gruesome Realization as a swap for Faithless Looting. Yes, Looting is cheap & has Flashback, but it isn't super helpful in this deck since you're not utilizing your graveyard as a resource. Gruesome Realization has helped me cut down other opposing creature token boards in a few games, or drawn me cards if I wasn't playing against those types of strats.

I hope these suggestions are helpful. Overall your deck has decent synergy, but I think a handful of the suggested swaps can get it a bit more honed in. Hope you have fun with Isshin, he's a blast.

Crow_Umbra on Isshin Double the Fun EDH

Have you had a chance to play-test your deck irl yet? I think you have a mixed variety of attack triggers, but some of them kind work against each other. Is there a particular direction you're interested in with Isshin, or do you have a specific budget in mind?

If you're interested in an Exalted route, I think you can trim out a decent chunk of creatures above your 4 cmc range. An effect that works pretty well with Isshin and also helps shore up one of the limitations of Exalted are the Myriad creatures. Myriad token copies are never declared as attackers, since they enter tapped and attacking, so you can still get your Exalted triggers & attack all opponents instead of just 1 at a time. You already have Duke Ulder Ravengard, & could lean more into it.

All Exalted Creatures in Mardu colors. The ones I think could be great in your deck:

  • Genasi Enforcers - Comes down early & can buff itself

  • Hammers of Moradin - A personal favorite in my Isshin deck. I like being able to tap down 2 creatures per board to make attacks a bit safer & more damaging.

  • Battle Angels of Tyr - The most expensive money-wise, but an excellent upgrade if you would want to go that route. More of a "catch up" effect.

  • Elturel Survivors - Can punch well.

  • Herald of the Host - Budget alternative to Battle Angels of Tyr.

If you decide to lean more into Myriad, you could also run effects like Corpse Knight, Impact Tremors, & Witty Roastmaster to squeeze even more damage out of all your Myriad tokens entering the battlefield.

I hope these suggestions are interesting and helpful. I'd be down to discuss potential cuts if you're interested.

Crow_Umbra on $25 Budget Isshin

Hey there, I saw your post on Reddit and figured I'd leave my suggestions here. I think for the most part, the majority of the deck is solid, but you can likely swap out Heiko Yamazaki, the General, Asari Captain, Peerless Samurai, Raiyuu, Storm's Edge, Selfless Samurai, and Tempered in Solitude, since all of those only care about solo attacking Warriors or Samurai, or solo creatures in the case of Tempered in Solitude. From having played Isshin a lot, the deck wants to swing out with more than one creature a lot of the time, and these cards all feel at odds with the rest of your deck.

Some potential swaps that can still fit your budget:

  • Scapegoat - Mana efficient and budget friendly board protection. I had this in for a while before Clever Concealment was printed.

  • Signal Pest - Very solid one drop for just about any Isshin list.

  • Accorder Paladin

  • Genasi Enforcers

  • Rakdos Signet - Your ramp is a little light, 1-2 more rocks can help.

  • Soul Partition - Pulls excellent double duty as a either a removal piece or can protect one of your permanents.

  • Elturel Survivors - Something I've wanted to find a slot for in my Isshin deck, but haven't been able to.

  • Scrappy Bruiser - A new piece of tech from MOM that's meant to synergize more with Backup, but can be a pseudo protective piece here.
