Eldrazi vs. Tron

Modern forum

Hi everyone, I was thinking about the state of Eldrazi Tron right now. I'm often switch between regular Green Tron and E-Tron because I'm lacking the will and the money to buy the last two copy of Karn Liberated and the second copy of Ugin, the Spirit Dragon . When it comes to E-Tron I own the whole shell and I even add some spice of my own with equipments like Sword of Fire and Ice and Sword of Light and Shadow .

I'm not too informed about the current modern state and what is the E-tron placement. I really dislike the Serum Powder version and I'd like to know some opinions about this archetype that I prefer over traditional G-Tron.

Let's discuss.

Eldrazi tron I feel is worse than the mono-red eldrazi prison variant.

With the London Mulligan, green Tron can have turn 3 Tron pretty often, and any hand that doesn't have Tron on turn 4 is an anomaly. Of course, this is before factoring in disruption, and if Force of Negation sees a lot of play, then you'll lose your first map or sylvan scrying to it.

I don't think E Tron can take advantage of the consistency granted by the London mulligan as well as green Tron. But I admit I don't know E Tron very well.

SynergyBuild I've never heard anything about Mono R eldrazi prison. Can you describe that or link me a sample decklist? I can't find anything on the web.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd mmh consistency Is Indeed a problema. I've been testing around with something to let me draw more likes Ugin, the Ineffable or Sword of Fire and Ice . I like both versions, despite preferring e-tron for being more creature based, buy yeah I didn't consider the new mulligan rule

This is a mono-red list using fast-ish mana like SSG, Gemstone Caverns, and prison cards like Chalice and Blood Moon. The list also uses Serum Powder, the good Chandra, and a normal eldrazi tribal package.

SynergyBuild Wow those lists are kinda cool, in my ignorance I've never heard of such an archetype, I love prison decks and I like e-tron, it might be a good way to go, and additional plus is that I don't have to dismantle G-Tron

E-Tron is more creature based, so in my experience it's lesss vulnerable to hate. I don't like it as much as I like G/R Eldrazi, but thats probably because I hate tron :).

I think if you expect alot (maybe to much) of tron hate, E-Tron is the way to go. But otherwise, Tron is probably the way to go.

I do like U-Tron as an additional varrient.

SynergyBuild thanks for sharing! I've brewed a lot of red Eldrazis on my own but never got to anything satistfying. Didn't know there was an 'archetype' based on this idea!

I see them all using Serum Powder . Is it only to 'combo' with Eternal Scourge ? Is IYO this interaction absolutely necessary for the deck to work? Couldn't we replace Powder with Blood Moon or MB Abrade / Lightning Bolt ?

Flooremoji U-Tron is the reason I started playing tron. I already have a solid build of that one but in "my meta" (friend's house and LGS) it is way too slow. I'm currently experimenting with the new WAR cards like Ugin, the Ineffable and the ovious Karn, the Great Creator + Mycosynth Lattice combo. Karn tgc is also very good to free some slots by placing for instance Mindslaver or big hit finishers in the sideboard for more control-ish stuff.

WizardOfTheNorthernCoast I think Blood Moon would be a sort of suicidal move since it cuts you off of colorless mana. Maybe a Damping Sphere hits E-Tron or Red Tron a lot less than the traditional G-Tron. But I don't really know if it could work.
