Best Manland in Modern?

Modern forum

What does everyone feel the best manland in modern is.

Treetop Village gets my vote but Creeping Tar Pit is no joke.

Celestial Colonnade Raging Ravine Faerie Conclave Lavaclaw Reaches Mutavault just to list a few more options.

due to the wide availability of decks that it can be played in, my vote is for Mutavault. If anybody considers Lavaclaw Reaches as a good card, they are bad at magic.

It is pretty good though.

MADMatt7777 I am going to build a viable deck with Lavaclaw Reaches just to prove you wrong.

Inkmoth Nexus has won me by far the most games of any manland, I play UG Infect though so perhaps I'm a bit biased. Mutavault is a close 2nd place.

Also, Lavaclaw Reaches is better than Rakdos Guildgate at least! Haha

Can't believe I forgot about Inkmoth Nexus.

Inkmoth Nexus in 1st, then Mutavault and Raging Ravine in 2nd and 3rd (but not necessarily in that order), with Creeping Tar Pit and Treetop Village in 4th and 5th (but not necessarily in that order either...lol).

Raging Ravine because I love Jund. Celestial Colonnade is it's own win con in UWx decks, so that's a thing. Mutavault and Inkmoth Nexus are both really important.

Whatever it is, its not Stalking Stones.

You're welcome.

Hmm. Blinkmoth Nexus and Inkmoth Nexus are probably at the top, at least for me (Affinity player. Sorry). Celestial Colonnade facilitates an archetype, so I'd say it's next after that. After Colonnade, I think that all the good manlands (Mutavault, Raging Ravine, Creeping Tar Pit, etc.) are about even.

Stalking Stones is even worse than Lavaclaw Reaches, makign it officially the worst manland (unless I'm missing something).

I've killed quite a few people with Lavaclaw Reaches in my mardu deck. It's not a good card but it gets the job done.

That being said there is no ultimate best manland in modern though if there had to be, it would be collonade because it flies, dodges nearly all forms of removal and attacks without tapping.

Inkmoth, then Raging Ravine, then Creeping Tar, at the moment at least. Back in the day it was all about Celestial Colonnade but UWx control hasn't been the same as it was back in ISD standard.

Also let's not forget Dryad Arbor, she's way up there too.

This is a pretty hard question actually. I would say that Inkmoth Nexus and Mutavault share the number one spot on the list, because mathematically speaking, they cost and take a tenth of your life total (and they of course have different advantages, all creature types and artifact creature). They also fit into any deck, which is great.

Number two would probably go to Creeping Tar Pit and Raging Ravine. I've been on the receiving end of both of those and it hurts a LOT.

Inkmoth > creeping tar pit > dryad arbor > mutavault, says I at least

Best man land in Modern is a toss up between Inkmoth Nexus and Celestial Colonnade.

I'm not sure that Dryad Arbor counts as a manland.

November 17, 2015 8:43 p.m.

The as-yet unprinted Izzet and Golgari manlands are clearly the best, hands down.

Colonnade is the best, closely followed by Inkmoth, then Ravine.

Colonnade will win games by itself in 5 turns maximum, has evasion, and you can tap it for mana if they try to kill it. Colonnade also provides a good blocking body, and produces blue mana, making it the second best manland to use for mana (Tar Pit is better for making mana, since black is more relevant.

Inkmoth has infect, so only needs to deal 10 damage. In Infect, it will finish the game in a couple turns if your Elf/Agent bites a Bolt, and can win the game in literally a single turn in affinity with Cranial Plating/Arcbound Ravager.

Raging Ravine is a case of 'beat this or die'. If you cannot kill the Ravine instantly, it will be a problem. Of course, you can chump block it, but Jund is an attrition deck, and you're going to lose control of the game quickly against them.

Only now do I realize that we are all just biased. :)

My Top 5:

  1. Inkmoth Nexus
  2. Mutavault
  3. Raging Ravine
  4. Creeping Tar Pit
  5. Celestial Colonnade

Honorable mentions: Dryad Arbor for being fetchable, Treetop Village for trample, and Stirring Wildwood for reach.

Stalking Stones PERMANENTLY becomes an arifact-elemental-creature, and doesn't enter tapped which is something... It's certainly not the best thing out there, but it has more interesting Johhny Combo potential than just about any other manland; ALSO, it's technically the only permanent "Man Land" the rest are only temporarily "Man Lands"... which might count for something? Also, who's ready for the twinnable Izzet Manland? XP

November 18, 2015 5:52 p.m.

@Harashiohorn: Being a manland permanently is really bad for Stalking Stones, because it fails the bolt test. Paying 6 mana so that they can Bolt your land after they untap is pretty bad, I think.

Harashiohorn says... #29

@Programmer_112 Oh Yeah, it's not exactly great, and is certainly bolt fodder, that being said I feel like being able to Arcum Dagssonit and the like, makes it have some intriguing combo potential.
