What is Rock as an Archetype?

I've rambled on a little about the archetype thinking golgari would generally give the tools to build it with so excuse me if i was wrong before... is there a difference between it and Junk? it might be possible to make it in standard but before that, i'd need to know how its meant to work. as far as i can gather from mtgsalvation it's a midrange, creature-based, aggro-control deck that drops a fat threat when the game has stabilized in it's favor, using discard to deal with problems that it wouldn't be able to deal with e.g. Supreme Verdict etc

Rock is the name for a deck that aims to have at least a 50% chance of winning the first game of every match. It is usually G/B but it has mutated into G/W/B sometimes. It is typified by having lots of interaction in the form of disruption and removal. Think of it as a cross between a midrange and control deck and you have a good idea of how it works. It is a very metagame-oriented deck style, so it's a bit silly for people to be calling their decks "rock" in an undeveloped format.

thanks for clearing that up, though if someone were to bulid the deck for the current standard what would most likely be on the list for the decks staples?

as far as i can list, there's Abrupt Decay , Duress , Appetite for Brains , Deathrite Shaman , maybe Desecration Demon , possibly Loxodon Smiter and maybe Treasured Find . anything else?

So if I'm understanding this right, would this deck here of mine be considered Rock? This is the Countdown to Extinction

@ gheridarigaaz: I think you're pretty close with your card ideas, but it'll be very hard to pinpoint this early in the format. Duress is generally better than Appetite for Brains , but the fact that it hits cards that Abrupt Decay can't hit is pretty good, and the exile clause is great against reanimator decks. I definitely think Deathrite Shaman would exist in multiples somewhere in the 75. Desecration Demon is a fine addition to a package running a lot of kill-spells, or maybe Harvester of Souls is another option. Mutilate s would definitely be in the package, and probably 1 or 2-ish Liliana of the Dark Realms . Loxodon Smiter would probably be sideboard tech for the mirror match if they're playing Liliana of the Veil , who would also be a good fit for the deck. I think 1 of Treasured Find would be good as well. Tragic Slip s are also worth considering either main or sideboard for their early utility. I would probably squeeze in 1-2 Underworld Connections if there's still room. card:Curse of Death's Hold is also up for consideration or sideboard tech.

@UmbrotheUmbreon: yep, it would be fair to call that a rock deck. Lord of Extinction is a good example of a finisher in Rock. Most modern rock decks are running things like Noble Hierarch , Dark Confidant , Tarmogoyf , Thoughtseize , Smother , Maelstrom Pulse ... it's a very expensive deck.

the annoying thing about Mutilate is the swamps... im considering splashing white, i guess for the usual white stuff like Oblivion Ring and Loxodon Smiter past that, I cant think of much... still kinda waiting for orzhov to come up with some good stuff before I go splashing for white immediately...

The deck was made... deck:the-rock-that-hands-the-boat. comments would be much appreciated :D
