Picking the best two tutors

Commander (EDH) forum

My bant-deck currently run two tutors:
Worldly Tutor. Upsides: Low CMC
Eladamri's Call. Upsides: Low CMC, directly to hand.
I'm quite happy with them both. However, my very small box of tutors currently have two spare cards in them that might be good too:
Green Sun's Zenith. Upsides: Reusable, synergy with Dryad Arbor.

Wargate. Upsides: Gets any permanent.

I'm happy with just two tutors since the deck is mostly for play in my casual playgroup, but I'd like some advice on what two tutors to run. Any helpful advice or convincing arguments for what to cut and what to include?

Wargate. You get more reach with it considering you've got a ton of W or U creatures as well as some other permanents. Besides, you have the ramp to pay the two extra mana and your curve is pretty low for Roon anyways. I used to run Roon as well. Nothing like pulling out a Mirrari's Wake.

Wargate, definitely!

Run Wargate alongside Eladamri's Call. Bam.

Yeah, Wargate and Eladamri's Call would be my choices as well

Personally I love Tooth and Nail and Defense of the Heart because they pull two creatures. Avacyn, Angel of Hope + Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite or Avenger of Zendikar + Craterhoof Behemoth can win you games. Aside from that, Wargate is the obvious choice in Bant so run 3.

@jraynor how is he going to run 3 Wargate in an EDH deck?

Sylvan Tutor, Mwonvuli Beast Tracker, Fauna Shaman, Fierce Empath run a bunch. I would run a bunch that are mentioned here. Tutoring leads to consistency.

I prefer tutors that put things directly onto the battlefield. Defense of the Heart and Tooth and Nail can set up easy victories in most decks. If you are tutoring for non-creatures, there are a ton of choices, and all depend on what you are looking for. White and Green have the most efficient tutors in the game in terms of cost and effect, so you will not find yourself wanting.

I agree, but I was just listing one that were not yet listed. All the ones here are viable. Some triggers are on cast, so to hand still works well. To top/hand tutors also cost less, and require less to get them out.

Either way, to address your post about picking 2. That is equivalent to running a one off in a normal deck. I would shoot for around 8 things to get what you need out.

Just look at it as you would building a normal deck. If you would run 6 beaters in a normal deck, shoot for 10-12 in an EDH deck. If you would run 5 counters, 8-10 is where you should be sitting at. The cards won't be the same, but instead of running more then one of a card, group them, and count them like that. Consistency is key.

I really love Fauna Shaman in creature-based EDH's. But Wargate definitely and Eladamri's Call

So no love for the Green Sun's Zenith + Dryad Arbor-synergy? With this much love for Wargate I might stretch my number of tutors to 3.

the green sun arbor combo only is good early game. Plus green sun only gets green creatures, you're running 3 colours

Green sun is great. Good early, good late. Keep it. There is also Chord of Calling don't bump your number to 3, bump it to 6+

@ canterlotguardian. Sorry if I confused you bud, but I feel like I was pretty clear. He specifically stated he was only using two tutors. I'm suggesting he use the three I was talking about in my post.

Yeah if you're limiting yourself then stick with the best, but there's no reason not to run Green Sun's Zenith and Chord of Calling and Eladamri's Call too.
