Dragonlord Ojutai, while powerful, seems out of place. I can't imagine it's better than more removal or countermagic.

I think spell queller is too good not to put at 4 and what about the one that gives all spirits indestructible? Also with spell queller they are gonna want to target it for removal so(and I know this isnt very helpful since I dont remember the name but the instant that counters a card that targets a permanent you control.

PlattBonnay, Well he's not too out of place, while lacking some synergy he gives me cards and a win when I need it. Also as I have 14 counterspells and 7 pieces of Removal mainboard I'd say a hard to remove 4 turn clock is just what I need, and if more removal is needed I have the sideboard to go to.

Iffy, Yeah spell queller is insane, but to run 4 I'd have to cut something else, and I don't know what else to cut.

The spirit that gives spirits indestructible would be good sideboard if the opponents run planar outburst but the most commonly ran boardwipes in the mainboard are Languish and Tragic Arrogance with languish being dogeable with always watching + essence flux to buff creatures and tragic arrogance can only really be countered to stop it.

As you said the opponents would really be wanting to remove spell queller, fortunately Essence flux is better in this deck then Turn Aside as in response to spot removal I play essence flux targeting spell queller, it leaves the battlefield, removal misses it, they cast the spell exiled with it for free, spell queller enters the battlefield and exiles the free spell they cast again, spell queller gets buffed, win.

I personally would take out one of the Ojutais and replace it with another Spell Queller because I am a Brago EDH player and I like the idea of permablinking spells. I am probably making a modern deck out of something like this so perma-blinking something early/mid game is huge.

BusinessmanGinger, yeah I put a negate in the sideboard to add the fourth spell queller so I'll still be able to draw ojutai when I need him

Great deck, but like what PlattBonnay said, Ojutai is out of place here. I have a similar deck like yours, check it out. U/W Spirits.

Archangel Avacyn  Flip might be better than Dragonlord Ojutai, as it is great having another powerful threat you can use on your opponent's turn.

Another suggestion is moving Selfless Spirit to the mainboard (at least as a 2-of) because
1. There is enough non-exile removal in standard to make it worth it (Avacyn, the Purifier  Flip, Radiant Flames, etc.)
2. It's another flying beater
3. It's great in combination with Archangel Avacyn  Flip
4. If you substitute Tragic Arrogance in your sideboard for Planar Outburst you can cause some serious blowouts.

I also doubt that Topplegeist is competitive enough, and this deck has enough 1-drop creatures as-is.

If you want more ideas, you can see what I did with my deck Spooks (EMN Standard)

I'd also swap out one of the Ojutai's Commands for another Unsubstantiate, but test it out and see what you are more comfortable with in the counterspell department.

thesquidlabs, I switched out topplegeist with bygone bishop and I think I'll keep that change.

I don't really like the idea of going down to 2 Ojutai's commands for another Unsubstantiate as I can use the command on the opponents turn to get back any of my 2 and 1 drop creatures to either block with or use their other abilities.

As far as Avacyn goes, I play-tested with her and the flash and indestructibility is really nice but she is prone to removal whenever the opponent has it. I feel that Avacyn is better in the aggro matchup where I'd bring in planar outburst and ojutai is better in the first match as he is much more resilient plus I get more card advantage.

So the changes I'll make will be:

-4 topplegeist, -1 ojutai, +3 bygone bishop, +2 selfless spirit.

I like it. Playing Spirits myself. Heads up, you have 2 Selfless Spirits MB and 3 in the SB.

Bygone Bishop feels like a sideboard card. It's great in grindy long games, but those aren't the games a tempo deck wants to be in.

Take out the Evolving Wilds for some more basics. They are too slow, and your mana base seems consistent enough.

Nice deck man, I'm really looking forward to playing it! This will probably be the new version of my old U/W Fliers deck i used pre-rotation. One thing I think would potentially be really good in this deck is Mirror Mockery if you can manage to fit it in. Almost all of your spirits have an "enters the battlefield" ability that would benefit greatly from it, and you'd get a guaranteed free spirit trigger every attack. Another decent combo would be to put it on Selfless Spirit while attacking with it, and then sacrificing the token to give all your creatures indestructible practically for free. Anyways, +1 from me!

I know that you are going for a spirit theme, but Reflector Mage is still incredibly strong here. It even works with essence flux.

Yup reflector mage should be an auto include in a W/U deck. Doesn't matter if it's a spirit tribal or not. It's simply that good.

I would also put in at least 2 Archangel Avacyn  Flip in the main along with moving the Negates from the side to the main. Specifically replacing Essence Flux and 1 of the Selfless Spirit. There's simply too much removal being played right now that ignores indestructible. Avacyn does the same thing but also gives you a 4/4 angel at instant speed. Having Negate and Avacyn is much better than the two cards you would be taking out. I also don't like Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit, You could easily replace her with Reflector Mage and never look back.

July 18, 2016 12:57 p.m.

i think you need 2xCollective Effort in your side board cuz of the versitality, can either get a big hitter out of the way, pump up your creatures or remove an enchantment, or everything at once

I really like the concept of this deck. My esper vapor deck has a similar approach and was wondering if you would check it out for any pointers.

July 19, 2016 2:33 p.m.

Just a heads up, I don't think Spell Queller and Essence Flux combo how you'd expect

Blade18410, Thanks and I hope you have success with your build. Also Yes Mirror Mockery is a fun card and can pull off some cool things but as I have ran it in a deck before I see it as a card that is good in only certain situations and I would rather have a more flexible card in its place.

Noctem, I have done much playtesting with Avacyn already and it just didn't do what I wanted it to do, so until I see how the meta goes I will hold off on Avacyn. Now Reflector Mage is difficult to decide on, I know he is extremely powerful but one thing that gives me an advantage in this deck is the ability to play my creatures on the opponents turn, leaving more reactive options open to me and can keep the opponent guessing. Tonight I will be doing a long session of playtesting with Reflector Mage and will post my results on here.

CuzImYourLastHope, yeah I've been considering Collective Effort for the mainboard but don't want to cut anything, but it certainly would be good in the sideboard, so I'll see what I can cut for it.

johnsonec, I'll try to check it out when I can and I'll see what pointers I can give.

happygilmore511, Well even if it doesn't I can still essence flux him to counter a more threatening spell then the one already exiled or to keep a body on the field if I need it.

Anyways, I'd like to thank everyone for their help and suggestions for this deck.

-1 Unsubstantiate -1 Stasis Snare +1 Collective Effort . thats what id do

I think the list is solid. The only real change I would make is getting rid of Nebelgast Herald and replacing it with Reflector Mage. Tapping a creature down vs bouncing it back to hand and stopping it from being cast till your next turn. Yeah. It would be a sin not to play the mage.

July 22, 2016 11:53 a.m.

IsThisWolfe says... #23

Noctem, I bought all the cards for this deck plus 3 reflector mages, so if nebelgast herald doesn't work I'll replace him
