Modern Aggro Budget Mono-Red

Sideboard

Maybeboard

This deck is consistent to win around turn 2-3 and a very fun deck to play. Feel free to playtest!

This deck is mostly prowess creatures and buff spells. I don't want to put in any infect cards because the damage is split between normal and infect counters (Plus, the deck is consistent enough to win turn 2-3 so using infect is a waste). There are some other creature cards that have been suggested such as Spark Elemental that come with haste and trample, but they are too risky seeing as they do not have prowess and die after a turn.

This deck only works in a 1v1. If you played more than 1 person, you wouldn't have enough cards in your hand to finish the last person. Also make sure you can win quickly against control or else you will fall behind.

Typically, it's better not to put in too much of the sideboard into the deck as it might ruin the consistency. Use Apostle's Blessing if you know the opponent is going to have a lot of creatures to block with or has a lot of kill spells. The rest of the sideboard and maybeboard are situational.

-Use Mutagenic Growth or Apostle's Blessing if the opponent uses kill spells.

-Taking a few points of damage is okay, but you really have to block, block with a creature and use Apostle's Blessing .

But most importantly:

Just win before the opponent can do anything. Onto the offensive strategies!

-The strategy for this deck is quite simple: play your creature, and buff it. Make sure to ramp with Desperate Ritual or Simian Spirit Guide .

-Play the phyrexian mana cards with 2 life instead of using Manamorphose .

-Keep track of the possible damage that all of your creatures can do.

-If you have more than one creature out, don't play your instants at once! Wait for the opponent to declare blockers and then buff the creature they don't block. Adding on, you will not have to exclusively buff Kiln Fiend because it's prowess is so good.

-When attacking, only use the full combo if you know you will deal enough damage to win. Otherwise, don't play any spells when attacking (unless your hand is full).

Add Simian Spirit Guide from your sideboard into the deck. You can replace Desperate Ritual , or you don't have to replace anything.

  1. First, play Mountain and exile Simian Spirit Guide . Ramp another time with Simian Spirit Guide or Desperate Ritual , and play Monastery Swiftspear . Then, play your spells, making sure to use Assault Strobe .

If you went 1st: The remaining two cards have to be Brute Force or Titan's Strength

If you went 2nd: The remaining three cards can be a combination of Brute Force , Titan's Strength , Mutagenic Growth , or Rush of Adrenaline .

If you have Manamorphose instead of any of the cards, it's still okay to go ahead with the turn 1 combo. Just remember that you might not draw a buff spell as planned.

  1. Play Mountain , then Monastery Swiftspear or Blistercoil Weird . Attack if possible (but don't use your spells yet!)

  2. Play Mountain , Desperate Ritual , and the rest of the cards in your hand. It really doesn't matter what cards you play, as long as you can maximize the damage over 20.
