Return of the Wumpus —Feb. 5, 2016
It's been a while, so bear with me. These changes are made after having spent time away from the game. I recently got back into playing 3+ nights a week with friends, so I've been meaning to dig this out and fix it up before it returns to active duty as one of my primary 1v1 decks.
Changes: -2 Lava Blister -2 Tectonic Edge -2 Thrashing Wumpus -4 Hunted Wumpus -2 Wreak Havoc +4 Argothian Wurm +4 Heat Shimmer +2 Strip Mine +2 Pillage
Changes Explained: Hunted Wumpus is a party card. I adore it, and it more or less inspired the deck, but it has to go. Argothian Wurm is an honorary Wumpus and will get along quite well with Shivan Wumpus. Thrashing Wumpus is a casualty of utility, so he's getting sideboarded for dealing with the odd token deck. Lava Blister became a 2-drop 6 damage that most opponents tanked (sideboarded). Pillage costs 1 less than Wreak Havoc and I'm in a meta that doesn't main a whole hell of a lot of counter magic. Heat Shimmer is excellent when paired with a Wumpus or a Wurm.
I was considering a pair of Amulet of Vigor and/or the possibility of swapping the Shocklands out for the Battle Lands. Thoughts on each? Any new card suggestions?
Gearge: Yeah.....I was hoping to alter it enough to make that irrelephant, but I like your suggestion. I'll main 3 for now, but I might boost that number to get it more often.

+1 for Wumposity
Doesn't Torpor Orb have some anti-synergy issues with Shivan Wumpus ? I mean, I assume you want opponents to sack their lands, right?
I built a Wumpus deck focused on Shivan Wumpus and Argothian Wurm . Heat Shimmer and other copy effects were key ingredients. Might be something to think about.

The point of this deck is to run the Wumpi. I like the "no lands for you" aspect of Shivan Wumpus , ergo why the bulk of the deck is focused on land-kill. Realistically, hand control would be far better than using Torpor Orb . (I'ts been a while since I last looked at this, and It looks to me like was a tad ill when I initially put this together.)
I'll likely be shifting it a bit closer to your build, bar the Ice Storm and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker . (/Budget problems)
Mind if I steal one of your coined titles for a Hunted deck I'm putting together? ("Things that go Wump in the Night")

Knock yourself out. Would be a good title for a deck featuring the black wumpus.
If you're looking for wumpus-themed cards, check Invigorate . The critter being spun by the hussie is a Hunted Wumpus . Doesn't really fit this deck, though.

Invigorate is at least sorta interesting. If I build a sideboard, I might side out an aggrieved midrange option featuring it.

I play alot of 'casual magic' at our local gaming store so I've seen my share of 'screwing around' decks, but I have to say, this one takes the cake.
I almost want to purchase this one for myself just to see how many people get a laugh out of it.
Upvoted. :3.

What about switching Tectonic Edge for Strip Mine ? Maybe a couple Acidic Slime for some more shenanigans? +1 for Wumpi!
Did you set it to Wumpus?

I love Wumpus!!!! +1 I'll look at the deck in more detail later but from a cursory glance I would suggest Fling XD

Cobthecobbler: Strip Mine would be in there if I had a higher-paying job, or cared a little less about the quality (and quantity) of my diet. Acidic Slime is always loved, and will be involved in a mono-green version of the build.
PriestessKikyo1: Sowing Salt is pretty cool, but not really the flavor of this build. Thanks anyway!
SwampHippie: Fling would be involved if I were to drop the black from the deck or if I were to make this more of an aggro build. I intend to build Mono-red & Mono-green landkill decks, so Fling will likely end up in the red version.
Quick deck update:
-3 Torpor Orb -2 Defense Grid +1 Forest +2 Mind Rot +2 Putrefy
Torpor Orb was just sort of taking up space. The deck's been altered to make up for whatever shenanigans Hunted Wumpus manages to stir up.
Defense Grid seems to be for dealing with a control matchup. "Sideboarded" for later consideration & deck tuning.

Man, I'm dense. How in the hell could I forget Terminate ? An excellent suggestion.
I'll pass on Hull Breach and Splinter Twin , however interesting the interactions.

You're welcome for the Terminate . I just thought the Hull Breach could be used to protect the wumpus, and removal of key pieces turn two (it can destroy both an artifact AND an enchantment), and Splinter Twin was to copy the Shivan Wumpus every turn and make use of it's ETB.

Wow...never realised there was a hunt the wumpus reference in magic. Cool.

It makes me sad to say it, but Hunted Wumpus is by far the weakest part of the deck, as it just lets your opponents get round the land destruction stuff. Torpor Orb could work quite well here.
