Update 5: The Masterful Update —Aug. 14, 2022

Here we are with yet another good-sized update for the deck. In the near future, I'll have to update Liliana of the Veil with a new art, but for now... here we are. Commander Masters... I mean, Double Masters 2: Electric Boogaloo has allowed me to get, not only a more beautiful version of Liliana, the Last Hope, but it's given me a Imperial Seal. I actually opened it in a box I split with a friend. Otherwise, I wouldn't have it for this deck, but I figured it needed to be used somewhere. Alongside that set, I also looked upon my deck as I played it, and decided to change things up a bit. I noticed that Gray Merchent of Asphodel was winning me the majority of games, and it felt a little boring to use him every game. Therefore, I added a few other ways to win the game, along with some support. I'll outline the changes before going into detail:

  1. Liliana, the Last Hope updated to full-art alt from 2X2 (Double Masters 2022). Damnation and Zombie Apocalypse were updated too.

  2. Removed Temple of the False God, added Ancient Tomb.

  3. Removed The Chain Veil, added Rise of the Dark Realms.

  4. Removed Swamp, added Unholy Grotto.

  5. Removed Archghoul of Thraben, added Lord of the Undead (read: returned).

  6. Removed Moonsilver Key, added Corpse Harvester.

  7. Removed Graf Reaver, added Plague Belcher.

  8. Removed Confront the Past, added Imperial Seal (somehow).

  9. Removed Sign in Blood, added Putrid Goblin.

  10. Removed Ebondeath, Dracolich, added Mikaeus, the Unhallowed.

So, the explanations. The first one is obvious, just an update on the art. Number 2 was a solid upgrade. Finally got my hands on an Ancient Tomb a while back, so I swapped it out for the obviously weaker Temple of the False God. For the third update, The Chain Veil usually felt kinda dead in my hand in the late game, and hasn't done as much work for me as I thought it would. It will join the Maybeboard, and might return in the future.

For option 4, its another easy switch. The only reason Unholy Grotto wasn't already in the deck was because I didn't have it. Number 5 brings back Lord of the Undead. It's a solid card, and after its absence, I realized I needed it back. Archghoul of Thraben is not a bad magic card, but I'd rather return a zombie of my choice to hand, then mill a bunch after a board wipe and put a handful of cards into hand. He'd be better if this was a normal zombie deck with 30+ creatures.

Number 6 and 7 removed Graf Reaver and Moonsilver Key. Graf never felt like an important card, and usually was only used to extort himself to flip my commander. He was mostly a dead card. Moonsilver was tougher, as it's been very handy. It'll go to the maybeboard for now. That adds Corpse Harvester to the deck, which I never knew existed, and Plague Belcher, which are both powerful new zombies for the deck.

8 is for Imperial Seal. I'll be honest... In all the games I've played, I've never used Confront the Past. I always discarded it... For 9 and 10, I got Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Putrid Goblin for some persist and undying shenanigans. I'm losing Ebondeath, Dracolich, which was a personal favorite of mine but ultimatly felt not good enough, and I'm losing Sign in Blood which is another favorite of mine, but figured it could take a break.

I'll see how this deck perfoms with these upgrades, and will edit this and/or provide a new update after playtesting it. Let me know what you think...
