Game Day 1 —April 18, 2015

1 - 3

... Well, not terrible for my first Game Day, right?

Match 1 : 0-2

Jeskai Tokens - Game 1 I just got overrun with tokens and made a bad call on when to resolve Silumgar, the Drifting Death. Game 2, sided in Negates and Virulent Plague in place of Silkwrap, drew nothing that I sided in, lost with Silumgar, the Drifting Death on the field against 2 Goblin Rabblemasters.

Match 2: 0-2

Jeskai Tokens (again) - Alright, seriously, I've seen 4 token decks in six matches these last two days. I'm considering mainboarding Virulent Plague. Game 1, got mana screwed. Game 2, resolved Virulent Plague and Silumgar, the Drifting Death, but lost to a bad call with Banishing Light after my opponent resolved a Dragonlord Ojutai.

Match 3: 2-0

Sidisi Whip - This guy had a really bad time against my deck. Mana-screwed game 1, countered his Satyr Wayfinders to make it worse (felt weird and dickish doing that), but it worked. I won around turn 12 and he still only had 4 land in play. Didn't bother siding as I hadn't seen much of anything from his deck, and the current setup was quite successful. Game 2, saw far more from his deck and actually found out it was a Sidisi Whip deck when he resolved a Sidisi, Brood Tyrant and had his Whip of Erebos and Hornet Queen countered. Crux of Fate turned into a one-sided board wipe after he committed his hand to the board, and I swung in for the win with a Dragonlord Ojutai I managed to borrow a minute before the event started; Belltoll Dragon would've similarly won the game at this point.

Match 4: 0-2

This was the most fun I had all night against a Temur Morph/Manifest deck. Game 1, landed Silumgar, the Drifting Death early, exiled everything he put onto the board with Silkwrap and Banishing Light, keeping his Deathmist Raptors at bay, until finally I lost, getting overrun by his creatures. I was a Crux of Fate away from turning this game around. Game 2, sided in Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver and took out an Ultimate Price. Locked down an early Deathmist Raptor with Silkwrap, landed Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver, only to be destroyed a couple turns later by a Shaman of the Great Hunt (that thing is just nasty), followed up by a Sarkhan Unbroken putting a handful of dragons onto the field and a Back to Nature giving him back everything that was exiled. I lost by getting stuck on 5 land for 4 turns with all kinds of gas in my hand.
