Sideboard and Land Base Change —Feb. 8, 2015
The sideboard has been changed (and I am very confident in the current board after TONS of testing). The removal of Root Maze also led to the addition of fetch lands back into the deck. The deck is very "tight" now (I literally don't have a single slot I feel I can change). There MAY be 1 slot available for a new card that may work in the deck (or for another Ezuri)...but right now I wouldn't change a thing.
Why not Choke instead of Boil? To me it seems like choke is a little more permanent solution seeing as how it affects the islands that they play after you land it. Granted, they're still there if the enchantment is destroyed but I'm not seeing the game lasting long with this deck anyway. I don't think it makes a huge difference but Choke has a lower CMC and it's mono-green so you don't have go fishing for a stomping ground. But with ramp that won't be an issue. I'm rambling at this point, but it's just something I thought of.

Hey! Was just browsing the site and found this. I've been looking to get into modern for awhile now, just haven't really put in much time into researching it. And man, i'm glad I found this. It looks super fun, and as my legacy deck is combo elves, this shouldn't even be too hard to build as it looks like i've got half the cards needed already. Thanks for brewing this man, def adding this to check out later.

I said half, I guess i meant "twelve" haha, still, got a bunch of the other cards lying around anyway.

Thanks kyuuri117!!!
After tons of testing, I feel like the mainboard is very "tight" (i.e. one card here or there can change every once and a while; but very little can change). I'm still working on the sideboard (it's tough with a deck like this that doesn't want to board much :)
I hope you really enjoy the deck! From one Elves lover to the next....Enjoy!!

Holy shit this deck is crazy. Aside from the fact that you can usually just win by casting Genesis Wave, the combos are very aggressive and easy to get out. Love the deck, +1000 if I could.

haha! You're right kyuuri117! I would LOVE to have access to Glimpse, Birchilore, Wirwood, Natural Order, etc...it is funny that even though they are very similar (with Heritage Druid and Nettle Sentinel); they are even more dissimilar!...ha! Let me know if you see anything you think needs tweeking, or what you think the best "sideboard functions" should be (protect my combo or fight others, etc.)...as an elf player, you have a good insight into how difficult it can be to board (and that is the thing I'm working on most now...given the recent meta shift it's kind of up in the air...) Thanks again!

Ha! Thanks Davik100....that is probably my favorite thing about the deck...generally a Genesis Wave of X=4 or more tends to end in a win :). You are absolutely right that the combo is easy to get to. In my testing I've found games where I'm even holding on to the combo for a turn or two in some cases AFTER I have it (just to ensure it hits and wins, or I have the infinite draw, etc.). It definitely is a deck that you get better and better with over time. I'm still finding lines I hadn't thought ot :)
I actually started writing a little "shortcut page" (i.e. 2 Heritage Druids + Elvish Visionary + Cloudstone Curio = draw 1 card for 1 mana...etc. just to help speed things along for the opponent :) It has a list of combos / interactions and their outcomes numbered; and the opponent can then search the "explanation" pages after the main list to learn how it works (if they don't believe it, just want to know how it works, etc.). I may try to find a way to "attach" it here so anyone that wants to play the deck has it.
I appreciate the kind words as well. I would have loved a +1000, but a +1 is great too!

16smith...I apologize I hadn't got to your comment yet. You are right that Choke is probably a better choice...I had got so excited by the times Twin has tapped out against me only for me to respond with Boil :) But you are right...for the devotion and lower CMC I think Choke it is! Thanks for the help!

Also, I'm not sure if the rules allow this, but having 2 Garruk Wildspeaker, one in play and one in hand, with a Cloudstone Curio out, would technically generate infinite mana with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and a Utopia Sprawled land, right?

I think by the rule of Planeswalkers, casting a second Garruk would force you to sacrifice one, instead of being able to choose to bounce him back with Curio. I'm not 100% on that, but I believe that's the way Walkers work.

CrovaxTheCursed is right on that on...planeswalkers ha e a "uniqueness" rule that is a stated action so when a PW sees itself, one instantly goes to the yard.
You can, however, loop Garruk Wildspeaker and Nissa, Worldwaker...as long as the mana works, you Untap lands for 5-mana, cast NIssa (bouncing Garruk) then untapping again for 5, cast Garruk (netting 1-mana), and continue cycle....I've thought about trying Nissa in place of Temur Sabertooth (as I really wanted to get her in)...but haven't tested it enough to say its a viable option.
P.s. The "loop" works as long as the total mana the two Untap is 10. If Garruk untaps a Nykthos that can trigger did 8-mana, Nissa ot has to Untap a few forests...
Good point guys! Its a great interaction!

Temur Sabertooth has been a super interesting card in this deck. It is the absolute perfect card for the grindy matchups (and I've had some success vs. Control with it as well).
I could only see it working in a "big mana" deck (as you want to cast it with 6-mana in many case to ensure you get all of the benefits of the card)...but in those decks it can win games all by itself.
I played match vs. a control deck today where he cast supreme verdict and I was able to bounce my heritage Druid and make Sabertooth indestructible. Turned a 4-for-1 into a 2-for-1 and I proceeded to kill kim with a Kessig wolf run pumped Sabertooth (holding up 2 mana so when he blocked with his Celestial Colonade I could bounce an elf and make him indestructible...killing the Colonade and keeping my Sabertooth...). There's just a ton of play to if.
I've also had instances where I had extra mana, so I'd bounce an Elvish Visionary or Coiling Oracle to draw another card....or bounce an elf to cast to Untap nettle sentinels...there's just a ton you can do with him.
Having said this; he's not particularly fast...so it limits the copies you can play. I couod easily see running two (and have thought about it)...but I don't think you'd want to run any more than that. He takes up a slot that could be a "win-con" so the value has to be there. I think it's worth it right now (as there is just so much you can do with him...and even just as a "protector" he's worth it right now in the meta.

That list is awesome Crazybop09! It's an astoundingly good Elf Aggro list. The Blood Moon and Domri Rade / Packmaster combo give you different angles to attack from. Cool list indeed!

I'm literally down to deciding on 1 slot within the deck. I would love to know anyone's thoughts on the following cards. I may want to try to find a way to add in:
Gilt-Leaf Archdruid - I've enjoyed this card in the past. It gives another possible win-con and is a card-draw engine (especially when you begin "looping" 1-drop druids....I may just have to make a separate druids deck to take advantage of this...but it seems good here.
A second Primal Command in the main. This is just extremely versatile.
Let me know (a) if you think I should try to add one or both of these in and (b) if so, what to take out. I'll test all ideas as well....the list is really "tight" right now; so it's literally down to changing a card here or there (and of course working to find the best sideboard)...

I vote archdruid, drawing cards and providing a possible new endgame seems exactly like what this deck wants to do.

Thank you mtgplayer443...that is a really good point. It is a card I've really enjoyed in the past, and seems extremely abuseable in this deck :) Thanks for your input!

Added Dryad Arbor to the list for a few reasons:
Been thinking about playing Nissa, Worldwaker as well (as in many situations Nissa + Garruk + Cloudstone Curio is an infinite mana combo); but we'll see if she fits. Thus far, I've liked Dryad Arbor...it is a land with summoning sickness; so there are definite drawbacks; but in the end I think it may be worth it!
