This deck started with a simple idea and shaped into a very fun and effective deck for both duels and multiplayer.
Though it is technically an Izzet deck, every single spell and creature is either colorless or devoid, it does play like an updated Prodigal Sorcerer/
Prodigal Pyromancer
style burn/control deck. It is also technically an Eldrazi deck but does not utilize scions, processors, or big scary titans. At a minimum it only requires three (U/R/<>) mana to get everything on the board rolling, but mid game and late game get especially fun when you have plenty of mana and cost reduction to cast several spells on your turn. The game can be won either by force with Reality Smasher smashing your opponents realities or by combo-ing down almost everything across the table. The biggest threat here is going to be powerful enchantments as there is no direct removal for them, but can easily be sideboarded if need be. The same goes for flying creatures, but there should be enough direct damage to bring most of them down.
The main two components here that really shine together are the Molten Nursery
+
Nettle Drone
. Ping everyone for 1 damage, play a spell to untap while dealing another damage that can either hit an opponent again or pick off their elves, thopters, goblins, tokens, etc... and repeat as many times as you can every turn. Multiples of either on the board really do some work on life totals and board states. If they don't have any blockers left you can just attack for 3 damage with the Nettle Drone which will grind them down even faster.
Brutal Expulsion
is the utility card that glues the whole thing together. It is best used offensively to bounce and replay your own creatures like Reality Smasher and
Endless One
, but at instant speed it can be used as an unconventional counter spell with burn attached for extra fun. If you don't have any other options it can also be amusing to bounce a Hedron Crawler and replay him with his own mana to trigger Nettles and Nurseries twice pretty cheaply.
Conduit of Ruin
+
Herald of Kozilek
cheapen everything you play which means more spells and more pinging. Herald is also a great 2/4 body to have on the ground by turn three. Nothing qualifies in the main deck to search for with Conduits first ability, but sideboard creatures are always an option. He is mainly there to enhance Endless Ones and be able to bounce and cheaply re-play Reality Smashers. The only ramp to help speed up the process are Hedron Crawlers which are actually best held onto for later since they can be played for 0 if you have 2 Herald of Kozilek or a Conduit of Ruin on the board. The same can be said of the Endless One which is great to throw down early as a 3/3 or 4/4 just to stop attacks and then use Brutal Expulsion to return him to your hand, which will untap Nettle Drone and trigger Molten Nursery, and then re-play him for as much mana as you have remaining (which can be 0 if you have a Herald or Conduit and he'll still be a 1/1, 2/2, or even bigger and keep triggering the combo). Later, a small Endless one can be bounced back to your hand while also killing an opponents creature with Expulsion and then replayed as a much bigger creature, often times as a 9/9 or more. The bigger Endless One can attack and then be hurled at whatever will do the most damage with the
Barrage Tyrant
. Sideboarding a Desolation Twin works for this as well as a finisher since you can guarantee grabbing one with a Conduit and then for only 6 mana the turn after playing him you can attack with two 10/10s and then throw both of them directly at a player for the win. As a main deck I found the Twins too expensive to rely on and Reality Smasher is a much faster threat that can still be thrown for the win, but for Emperor or Two Headed Giant games that typically buy you more time they are definately game winners.
Oblivion Sower is sort of a win harder creature in this deck since he doesnt directly combo with anything other than stealing land which always gives an advantage and can allow you to follow-up with another spell or two. Eldrazi Mimic would be a nice replacement for its cheap cost and amazing synergy with Reality Smasher, but everyone does that.
Titan's Presence
could come into play to replace
Reality Hemorrhage
, but for most creatures you could reveal its only going to be 1-3 more damage, and the drawback of having to reveal what youre holding and not being able to hit a player directly make it less effective. It also doesnt work if you dont have a creature in hand and since it is not actually damage it isnt enhanced by Molten Nursery adding extra hits to the same target. Sideboard along with a Desolation Twin however can be potent to take down a bigger threat, which would prevent the need to use Brutal Expulsion defensively and allow you to stay aggressive with your combo.
In the end, this isnt your typical Eldrazi for the win deck. It requires 2-4 components working together and some forethought on which order you are going to do things as well as which targets to hit. It doesnt always play out the same way, and unlike a lot of decks that are great for duels or multiplayer this tends to work out pretty well for both situations. The best part is that it can be put together rather inexpensively (with the exception of Reality Smasher being $4-$5 a piece). I got lucky and nabbed all 4 of mine out of boosters :)
