"This style of dimir" is like 3 decks combined together: Alchemy, Angler-delver and UB Control. I can believe that you can mill yourself out with alchemy, AC, preordains and mulldrifters pretty easily.

  • If you want to play angler-delver - swap mulldrifters for delvers, add brainstorms for alchemy, change preordains for ponders.
  • Alchemy plays only augurs and anglers. Or at least play one Stream of Thought
  • UB control would cut alchemy and throw more spells or non-selfmill CA. Black rose could be helpful.

I would cut main justice for Arms of Hadar. Maybe not repeatable but kills all bully creatures and they can't even protect themselves. Imo AC is not that great of a card. In alchemy it is fine, but even only one bog and this card just feels sad. In the same slot you can use Behold the Multiverse, Think Twice and Pop Quiz - this last one is weird, cause it can ramp you&gains you life and provide reasonable threat later. I takes 5-6 slots in SB, but after little testing, I am very surprised how good this CA is.

amerika00 those are all undoubtedly good cards, but they all share a common problem for the purposes of this deck: They all have odd mana values. I could run them, but I would have to forego retaining Gyruda as a companion. I don't run Spikefield Hazard  Flip, Opt , or either of the odd-mana value Izzet Learn spells ( Igneous Inspiration or Pop Quiz ), all for the same reason.

Thanks for your advice. It was really useful.

I had been playing around with the Learn mechanic, utilising Pop Quiz , but for 3 mana, it wasn't cutting it. Essentially, the Lessons are "Get out of jail" cards only: slightly too expensive for their effect but could literally save you the game. So 3 mana for 1 draw and a Lesson wasn't working.

Charge Through isn't a Learn card unfortunately, hence me overlooking it but I did take onboard your advice that Quandrix Apprentice was a truly suboptimal card for this deck and maybe running 4 Snakeskin Veil and 4 Ranger's Guile was too much defense. I mean, its good to keep your critters on the board but that will only get you so far.

I was specifically avoiding using Eldraine cards but they are just too good. Having a spell to cast AND a creature is very good for this deck.

The deck desperately needed a decent 3 drop, so Lovestruck Beast made its way in. Instantly saw a dramatic improvement.

I did actually go for a Learn card: Gnarled Professor . Its 4 mana for a 5/4 Trample creature which has Learn. That's mana efficiency for you right there. Plus every time you copy it with Orvar, you learn a new lesson.
