Nalia de'Arnise

Legendary Creature — Human Rogue

You may look at the top card of your library at any time.

You may cast Cleric, Rogue, Warrior and Wizard spells from the top of your library.

At the beginning of combat on your turn, if you have a full party, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control and those creatures gain deathtouch until end of turn. (Your party consists of up to four creatures, one Cleric, Rogue, Warrior and Wizard, each.)

Omniscience_is_life on Restrictions to make commanders interesting?

Oh, Magic.

I haven't played in ages, but I found my old cards while packing up my things to move to university and wanted to check out the current ecosystem of the game... So much new product!

I got excited to try theorycrafting around some of the new legends, but quickly hit a wall; even with the insane density of available commanders I'd never seen before, nothing felt exciting enough to be worth brewing around. Every legend seemed to either generate insane value without much need for support, provide support for an archetype with a trillion options for commanders anyway, or try to provide a commander for a new theme/mechanic that couldn't possibly have enough cards to fill the 99 with the rapidity of set-switching that occurs nowawadays.

The last EDH deck I really enjoyed making was a Nalia de'Arnise build that only employed cards with Party types--having to find sufficient card draw, ramp, and removal only by using Warriors, Wizards, Clerics, and Rogues was a super fun challenge and forced me to find some fascinating synergies and interactions.

I was really hoping to find a commander that would allow for a similar type of build, one which requires effort and originality to fill each slot but doesn't just collapse against other real players. I failed, but fortunately for me there are many many many people better at this game out there--I call upon your power to suggest commanders and/or restrictions (perhaps a particular combination of the two you've pondered before) to satiate the ridiculously narrow type of deck that I like to build.

Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestions Crow_Umbra ! I really like Roaming Throne, it feels like a Strionic Resonator, but it also fills any role in your party! I will definitely put it in the mainboard!

(My playgroup hates infinite combos). I will definitely put Kutzil's Flanker as well, because I lack graveyard hate. (thinking of the already in the maybeboard Remorseful Cleric as well, but instant speed is SO much better!!!)

Thx for the Deck Suggestion Epoe5000 ! I really like that you make the most use out of Nalia de'Arnise by manipulating your top card with all those artifacts!

Crow-Umbra Yeah, I sometimes switch Nalia de'Arnise with Burakos, Party Leader/Folk Hero its just down to how i'm feeling on the day.

To be honest i've never had a problem with the higher cost cards, i've always pulled the cards I need or wanted. I've played it about 20 ish times and its been pretty solid deck and won most of those games. It must be luck then ;)

Hi there! I think you might have a smoother time playing Burakos, Party Leader / Folk Hero as your commander. I also bought and upgraded the Party Time precon, and initially tried it with Nalia de'Arnise as the commander. I've found having Burakos at the helm and leaning more heavily into the Party focus can make for a very fun and resilient build.

You have a lot of strong and higher mana costed cards, so having some Treasure production in your command zone will help you cast some of your bigger spells more consistently if you decide to keep your deck in its current form.

All that being said, I think that although you have many strong cards in your deck, it does lack some cohesion and synergy. Although you have Maskwood Nexus in deck to turn all your creatures into Party members, you may not always draw it or tutor it out, so having your creatures be primarily be Party classes will help with consistency, regardless if Nalia or Burakos is the commander.

Having Burakos and even a couple Party creatures can have you pumping out 1-4 treasure per combat, which is nothing to scoff at. This opens up additional alternate win-cons like Revel in Riches, and creates some fun synergy with things like Agent of the Iron Throne, Disciple of the Vault, and Marionette Master.
