Arahbo, Roar of the World

Legendary Creature — Cat Avatar

Eminence — At the beginning of combat on your turn, if Arahbo, Roar of the World is in the command zone or on the battlefield, another target Cat you control gets +3/+3 until end of turn.

Whenever another Cat you control attacks, you may pay . If you do, it gains trample and gets +X/+X until end of turn, where X is its power.

Kingtao on Eminence: Do you like it …

I like Eminence, my second commander and favorite commander to this day is Markov, I don't believe eminence is broken as a lot of people seems to think, for me it's far less problematic than infinite combo and such, most eminence are not top cedh anyway.

Also, in my opinion Arahbo, Roar of the World is a great commander and his eminence is better than Edgar Markov , the cat tribe is nothing to take lightly

I've played against all the eminence commanders and played with a few. I think both Inalla, Archmage Ritualist and Edgar Markov were a ...bit much.

The others being Oloro, Ageless Ascetic, Arahbo, Roar of the World, and The Ur-Dragon always seemed strong but fine to me. Their real value not coming until they are in play.

The new one drawing and discarding seems like it has the potential to lean more towards the first group imo. Drawing on a commander always seems woefully undervalued by so many... Though it isn't just straight card advantage so maybe it'll be another strong but fine commander. People will actually want to play it in order to get real value out of it.

Overall I think any card with eminence is going to be playing with fire but not any more so than say storm or infect. It'd be easy to go overboard with the effect but there are many other effects that provide only mild value. Regardless folks will likely get targeted even if they played the absolute weakest eminence ability. I think the heat it can attract will balance it out at any table.

Interesting choice for the deck.

For Arahbo, Roar of the World there is still also an important counter-argument. Actually all Eminence Commanders like to stay in the Command Zone, because they already do a good job from there. However, this could be a problem with the minus points in the Slow Grow Tournament and being forced to play the Commander when you would rather play something else just to avoid the minus points limits your play options.

Anyway, good luck for the tournament.

Love the design. One wording thing: Eminence always also includes "...or on the battlefield..." (compare Arahbo, Roar of the World).

lore wise im not sure ether. but cats Savannah Lions have always been and Arahbo, Roar of the World just doesn't make sense to me. also Lord Windgrace activated abilities seem like naya to me +2 discard and draw , -3 land from gy to battle field , -11 semi wipe and make cat tokens seems to me
also Sarkhan's progression of , , & just makes sense that one day he would be jund. ugin sending him back in time suddenly makes him ?

so lets say we are playing commander. opponent B has a Telepathy and I know that opponent A has a Smite the Monstrous in their hand, along with the mana to play it. my commander is Arahbo, Roar of the World and my only creature on the battlefield is Fleecemane Lion which I dont have the mana to give it monstrous. to protect my cat, can I skip my combat phase to not give it the buff, or since arahbo doesnt say may, even if Im not gonna attack I have to enter the combat phase, arahbo triggers giving my cat +3 +3 and making it a removal target?

golgarigirl on Best commanders to introduce new …

Hello lovely people!

Inspired by the Jake and Joel are Magic short yesterday, I wanted to get some ideas! The question is: What are the best decks/commanders to play against new players to teach new players coming into the format?

I can't say I agree with Jake and Joel, but I get the idea of a group hug-esque commander to help a new player see their whole deck. I think this could cause decision paralysis, and only really accelerates experienced players.

I personally play against new players with a barely (and budget) modified Arahbo, Roar of the World or a super budget Alesha, Who Smiles at Death. But even those decks can be a bit complex and explosive at times.

What are your thoughts and suggestions?

DarkMagician on What is "fair" magic?

griffstick I think all magic is fair magic with the exception of things that absolutely can not be interacted with. So currently my list of unfair magic cards is comprised solely of the 2017 Commanders that have the Eminence ability ( Edgar Markov , The Ur-Dragon , Inalla, Archmage Ritualist and Arahbo, Roar of the World )
