Latest Decks as Commander
Arahbo, Roar of the World Discussion

so lets say we are playing commander. opponent B has a Telepathy and I know that opponent A has a Smite the Monstrous in their hand, along with the mana to play it. my commander is Arahbo, Roar of the World and my only creature on the battlefield is Fleecemane Lion which I dont have the mana to give it monstrous. to protect my cat, can I skip my combat phase to not give it the buff, or since arahbo doesnt say may, even if Im not gonna attack I have to enter the combat phase, arahbo triggers giving my cat +3 +3 and making it a removal target?

Hello lovely people!
Inspired by the Jake and Joel are Magic short yesterday, I wanted to get some ideas! The question is: What are the best decks/commanders to play against new players to teach new players coming into the format?
I can't say I agree with Jake and Joel, but I get the idea of a group hug-esque commander to help a new player see their whole deck. I think this could cause decision paralysis, and only really accelerates experienced players.
I personally play against new players with a barely (and budget) modified Arahbo, Roar of the World or a super budget Alesha, Who Smiles at Death. But even those decks can be a bit complex and explosive at times.
What are your thoughts and suggestions?

griffstick I think all magic is fair magic with the exception of things that absolutely can not be interacted with. So currently my list of unfair magic cards is comprised solely of the 2017 Commanders that have the Eminence ability ( Edgar Markov , The Ur-Dragon , Inalla, Archmage Ritualist and Arahbo, Roar of the World )

I found having too many cats wasn't very useful, I went a bit extreme, down to 14 cats, but 28 is a lot. Arahbo, Roar of the World only Eminence triggers one cat, and unless you're in a state with a ton of mana to activate the ability for multiple cats, not really needed.
How I solved this problem, was more creature tutor cards (instead of more cats), so Sylvan Tutor , Time of Need , I got a Survival of the Fittest for xmas one year which was cool. Chord of Calling , Eldritch Evolution even Congregation at Dawn are all viable to. The right cat at the right time vs. drawing more cats. Initiate's Companion , Leonin Skyhunter , Steppe Lynx feel like some easy cuts.
Are you primarily trying to kill everyone with combat damage? Beastmaster Ascension maybe?
Fumigate seems wrong.
Might reduce in lands, do you find yourself flooded, eliminate anything that comes into play tapped with no strong ability. Your not running toward a Tooth and Nail or anything so likely can miss a T4-6 land drop and still be in good shape, can also Land Tax or Archaeomancer's Map or Kodama's Reach to get more lands in hand. Evolving Wilds , Krosan Verge , Path of Ancestry could be some easy. If you're worried about mana fixing, fetch lands are great Windswept Heath but also the off-color ones like Wooded Foothills , Flooded Strand , etc.
Teferi's Protection to dodge board wipes?
I might add an alt win-con, Triumph of the Hordes might be one, but having a backup plan, maybe Grafted Exoskeleton or perhaps Ajani, Adversary of Tyrants to bring back Lost Leonin . Bala Ged Recovery Flip for Triumph of the Hordes , I dunno something?
Hope you find something useful here. +1

I think this deck could use an Arahbo, Roar of the World . More support for the cats!

Omniscience_is_life will tell you about my experience with the deck and its improvements. With an explosive start it was good for me, but it is difficult in the low turns, I played against a friend's deck Arahbo, Roar of the World and finished 2-1, but what I could feel is that I suffer low turns a lot (between shift 1 to 4). In multiplayer format facing my deck to inalla, omanth 3 colors, and Arahbo I was able to give more fight, since they let me arm myself and I could easily explode to 2, however the same thing happens to me, problems in the first 3 turns. If I am lucky enough to be able to play morophon in turn 3-4 it is almost impossible to lose thanks to the pressure, but if I don't, those turns are always dangerous especially against Arahbo and Markov. The budget that I manage is not to exceed 800 USD in the deck. Thanks

Nice to see a cat tribal Nethroi deck!
Arahbo, Roar of the World
a lot, a when Ikoria was released, I pondered to make an abzan cat tribal with Nethroi. But I ended building it normal graveyard synergy as I wantet to keep my classic Arahbo constructed.
Anyway, I know the flavor is that all your cats are legendary, an I love that, but I think if you want to play the deck more efficient without losing cat theme, you can do some changes:
Falthis, Shadowcat Familiar
in this particular deck is only a 2/2 vanilla, as your only commander Nethroi already has deathtouch. I love it, but in this particular case sadly doesn't do anything.
Cards you could add, knowing that aren't legendary, but they are cats that work very well with your deck:
Fleecemane Lion can became indestructible, and then you can mutate your commander on it, making a great indestructible menace and keeping that +1/+1 counter.
Fleetfoot Panther and Whitemane Lion can save one of your cats or can bounce your commander to keep doing his mutation and reanimating things. Bronzehide Lion also protects your creatures.
Qasali Pridemage you play it, control your opponent best artifacts or enchantments, dies and Nethroi will recover it later.
Necropanther to reanimate small cats or creatures, and can mutateo over your commander to repeat effects.
Feline Sovereign and Regal Caracal , if you go tribal, those are the best cats lords, in addition to Kaheera of course.
Rakshasa Debaser can be a wincon when you encore him.
Alms Collector for card draw and to control greedy card draws of enemies.
Phantom Nishoba and Phantom Tiger look scrapy, but they count 0 power when you reanimate them with Nethroi, and if you mutate Nethroi on them, you transform Nethroi into a crature that prevent all the damage that receibes, even if he loses all +1/+1 counters.
And playing something like Nethroi, believe me (I'm a Nethroi and a golgari player), you need graveyard synergy. If you don't, you'll find that you reached turn X, play Nethroi but you only can revive 1-2 sad creatures. You need to fill your graveyard before that.
Exmaples (of course there are much more):
Altar of Dementia
Life from the Loam
Eerie Ultimatum and Living Death you'll have much fun with those in this type of deck.
Hope that give you some ideas to improve the deck without changing its spirit.
