Martyr's Bond

Enchantment

Whenever Martyr's Bond or another nonland permanent you control is put into the graveyard from the battlefield, each opponent sacrifices a permanent that shares a card type with it.

Housegheist glad you like the deck and thank you for taking the time to comment.

  1. I ran Divine Visitation when I first made the deck, I rarely attack and when I play this deck and opt to kill through aristocrat combos. So I ended up only using it to combo with Requiem Angel and a sac outlet, and eventually dropped it altogether.

  2. Nim Deathmantle I added in last year and has been amazing.

  3. Dream Devourer is in my maybe list and I've just been too lazy to get a copy to test out, but it will be tested eventually.

  4. Martyr's Bond has been great. I find the 6cmc worth it because it affects all nonland permanents. So my opponents have to lose their important enchantments/artifacts to destroy my combo pieces and since this deck has pretty good treasure generation, I can keep my opponents mana rocks off the field most games.

And I will absolutely take a look at your deck sometime today.

Nice take on Teysa. I like her ability a lot and she's one of my favouritve cards of all!

It seems like you're creating a lot of tokens... What about Divine Visitation? Nim Deathmantle can be used as a phenomenal recursion pice (and can go infinite with Elenda, the Dusk Rose. Dream Devourer showed hinself as a wonderful ramp-piece which also protects your cards from discarding or similar effects.

Which experiences do you have with Martyr's Bond? It seems pretty slow with that high cmc. Does it perform well?

My first eve deck is a take on Teysa too. Maybe you wanna have a look:

With this much treasure production, Martyr's Bond is a Grave Pact effect that will keep your opponents boards clear of artifacts.

Profet93 I prefer Martyr's Bond as it's another gravepact effect with an additional bonus: it makes opponents sacrifice artifacts when I sacrifice treasures. It always instantly makes me feel like a villain when I use it in my mardu token deck, so I tossed it in here since I have more treasure production cards.

I was considering Cabal Coffers and a few other of the black ramp cards for it, but I don't own any so it would be a purchase I have to consider.

Not sure on Contamination but it's worth a test. I only worry that it might lock me out of my white token production/doublers at a bad time. But it's worth a test, I'll try it out as I begin to playtest this deck and see how it works.

At the point when an animated Martyr's Bond is put into your graveyard, it has the characteristics it last had on the battlefield, so it would trigger itself as an enchantment creature. Your opponents could sacrifice either a creature or enchantment.

I control Zur, Eternal Schemer, who has made Martyr's Bond into a creature.

The animated Martyr's Bond dies, going into the graveyard; at what point does it stop being a creature?

For the sake of Martyr's Bond's own trigger, do the opponents have to sacrifice an enchantment OR creature - or, because it is no longer animated (as it is no longer on the battlefield), would the trigger only force opponents to sacrifice an enchantment?

I actually have 1 more suggestion since you run Dictate/Grave Pact. Consider Martyr's Bond as mainly artifact and creature removal. It triggers off additional permanent types, and with your treasure production, would keep your opponents' boards clear of artifacts too.

Sleeper powerhouse indeed. I understand why they made Smoke red in the early days (red = aggro and big creatures) but it was a major color wheel miss. Bant is the polar opposite of red.

I always thought Harrow could have been red. Red could have a lot of effects with the added clause of "As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice a [blank]."

Good point. Blue is strong but white taxes are brutal. Karmic Justice and Martyr's Bond are in a league of their own. Swords and Lightning Bolt really have stood the test of time. Defined the math and expectations of the game.
