Advice for Hope of Ghirapur led EDH Deck

Commander (EDH) forum

Not sure if this is also a rules post but you can run Hope of Ghirapur as a commander im assuming.

In that case im very curious if you guys think Hope of Ghirapur could be a fun commander. I do like the guaranteed turn 1 play. Im sure loading the deck with stuff like Cranial Plating is the way to go. Suggestions?

Also, Im looking into other cards like Isamaru, Hound of Konda as I like the idea of 1-2 drop commanders

Now here's the problem with Hope... It's colour identity is non existent! This means you can play cards that have no colour identity (that would exclude Cranial Plating as the black symbols in its activated ability register it as a "black" card in terms of edh deck-building). The same thing means you can only run lands that can ONLY produce colourless mana. These two issues severely limit your options.

With that clarified, I do believe that Hope can be a very fun commander to build around with, as it will be very unique at the very least.

Isamaru, Hound of Konda can be a very fun deck, I believe there's a lost floating around tappedout for a hound deck that has only 1 drops for the entire deck.

I'd also recommend Rhys the Redeemed as a very fun 1 drop commander. He generates a ton of tokens, and in green white you can do a lot.

I don't have too much to say about hope, I haven't considered him much as a commander, but maybe you can come up with something I couldn't.

Hope this helps and good luck

Some other one-drop commanders are Kytheon, Hero of Akros and Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter.

I must say I prefer the options where the commander actually does something, hence my 2 suggestions. These cards are usefull even when they come out later in the game.

Hope of Ghirapur only targets one player, so in a multiplayer pod I don't know how effective it will be, same with Isamaru, Hound of Konda... the only thing I see with these is their color identity and going voltron.

Both Hope of Ghirapur and Isamaru, Hound of Konda fall under the category of "don't really do much". Using its ability, HoG will become very expensive to cast very quickly. And if you don't, It's very underwhelming as a commander. Isamaru falls into the same trap. It's just a 2/2. That's it. Sure, you can play some equipment but white is the slowest colour in commander so unless you get a really good hand, you're already behind.

If you want to play voltron, you're better off sticking to voltron commanders.

Norin the Wary is another build-around 1-drop commander.

If you want to go colourless I'd rather take Karn, Silver Golem. You also have to consider that playing colourless without Ancient Tomb, City of Traitors, Mishra's Workshop and Vesuva or stuff like Metalworker, Memory Jar, Mycosynth Lattice is not cool and if you still need to buy these you probably opt out of playing an artifact build.

Actually isamaru is a very powerful commander his speed is amazing (I run isamaru edh so I know) hope could be very powerful as well with efficient equipment and he has evasion so counting to 21 shouldn't be to hard
