Curious to hear the community's thoughts on an equipment based Akiri & Bruse volton beat down deck. Think it has legs or is it just a bad idea? Thoughts & suggestions welcome:

Mine has a bit more red but its pretty similar to mine

Akiri Equipment Voltron

I dont think itll ever be a highly competitive deck, but its definitely fun and a good voltron deck

Yes! I really dig your build. In your experience, what has been your favourite cards to slap down? Any surprise all-stars in your list or is it pretty straight forward?

I've brewed this deck a lot and never had much success. I think KailDaemon's deck has more 1 drop equipment, which is pretty important since you kind of need to speed to compete well. Akiri can and should be swinging for 4 on turn 3. That said, O-Naginata and such really make the deck play better in my experience though I do like the equipment that give card advantage such as Infiltration Lens and Mask of Memory.

BTW have you considered Smuggler's Copter? It's actually a pretty decent option here imo

Honestly, dropping a Mycosynth Lattice is a bomb. Akiri can swing for lethal with one

Thanks dlamars, you're right, I bet speed is definitely a factor here and it's hard to go wrong with card advantage. Good suggestions.

KailDaemon, totally! Ensuring Akiri has evasion, a well timed ML would wreck. I like it.

So, what I found was that pure R/W Akiri, even with Bruse, would run out of gas way too fast and have no good way to refill the hand once empty. So I ended up going with Akiri and Silas for more card draw, tutors, and Cranial Plating. This is the list I ended up with Akiri Test. This is is more tuned for a competitive setting, so the card choices ignore monetary cost and are a lot more brutal overall.

In short, I think Akiri has legs, but Bruse just doesn't do enough to help, so other help is needed.

Ah yes, definitely opens up some powerful counterspell/tutor options, nice synergy with Silas as well. I hear what you're saying about Bruse, he's more or less there for colours & partner flavour. That said, his ability isn't awful - I wanted to give a deck a shot, simply because I haven't built a Boros deck yet (unless you count Uril as pseudo-Boros). I also haven't played an artifact heavy deck either - admittedly the strategy is pretty linear (stack Akiri, smash face), but I'm interested in trying something different. There's obviously more competitive artifact deck options out there (Dagsson & Memnarch spring to mind), but I'm a little 'd out at the moment.

Definitely a mighty looking deck you have there Coinman1863, some great ideas throughout. Completely forgot about Leonin Abunas, he's going in.

I don't know if you considered it, but you could always build a traditional red artifact deck instead of voltron but adding white for support. Using the cantrips like Chromatic Star, wheels and the red staples like Scrap Mastery, Trash for Treasure, Daretti, Scrap Savant with white adding Sun Titan, Refurbish, Open the Vaults, Faith's Reward etc.

I've had trouble getting a solid list refined, but with the new Paradox Engine it seems like it'd be a lot of fun. People might get annoyed with the long turns though. Anyways just throwing that out there if you end up not to liking voltron.

I was hoping to stick to the equip/voltron strat, but the game plan you're suggesting seems fun too. Good food for thought.
